More College Students With Mental Illness

I'm just waiting for my insurance to classify oil addiction as a real condition so I can get treatment for my ever growing oil stash and oil addiction.

I doubt most college kids have 'real' depression and actually need meds. College kids have an excuse for all of their failures. Of course any doctor will prescribe meds to keep his patients (kids to young adults) hooked and have them coming back every few weeks for an evaluation. Maybe a different med or an increased dosage of their current meds.

Young folks better get used to dealing with stress, aggravation and not having every thing being given to them cause they are in for a rude awakening, in the real world you will have to deal with [censored] on a daily basis.... its called LIFE.

Its absolutely disgusting at what happens to Jacob.

In hindsight, I could have benefitted from some diagnosis/treatment in college. Perhaps it would have saved me some grief later on in life that led to two different bouts with depression or tought me some skills to deal with it better. In hindsight, I know I had some problems then too, but never did anything about it then.

Coming out from under your parents shadow and protection can often be the time this stuff starts to show up...

I wouldn't wish the "fun" I went through on anyone. For me, a combination of medication and therapy was the key - not medication alone though it helped. I'm also grateful for the help of my family and friends...

While I agree with you for most kids the problem is this thinking might get the best of kids who really are "sick" and need help like I did.

We need better guidelines for health professionals to figure this out so all those who need it get the treatment they need without allowing those who don't to use it as an excuse for failure as you stated.

You're going to get the worst out of whatever you try and accomplish. Nothing stops at "reasonable" and not everyone is going to manage at some predetermined optimal status no matter how much medication or counseling you throw at them.

You used to be able to hide your misfits in manufacturing where no one cared about your personality or how great you felt about yourself.

There, people asked you if you had a quarter so you could call someone who cared.

Yes, a few months of basic training and a dedicated D.I. will do wonders for depression. John--Las Vegas.

Not sure if you meant that sarcastically, but the answer is... pretty much, yeah. To some extent, it's for exactly that reason.

they have depression/anxiety because there are no jobs out there when they finish college. the economy will probably be in the tank in the next five years. If I was a college student, I would not look forward to moving back in with my parents.

I guess they are going to have to put down their iToy and other electronic gadgets, lose their over inflated ego and make looking for employment a full time job.
