So, I’ve been real lazy when not working. This filter was at my basement door. Unknown vehicle, ziplock baggy with duc tape said 7k on oil and filter. Says “factory installed” on some end too 😎

Based on a recent thread showing a Motorcraft (was it an 802 or 820?) and a video I watched dissecting these two filters, they look like they are identical in design except the Motorcraft has a orange (silicone or rubber?) ADBV and the Mopar has a black (rubber?) ADBV. Both seem to suffer from "wavy pleates" which may or may not matter. Does wavy pleates matter? And which would be better oil filter applications, black rubber or orange silicone?

Silicone is always better than nitrile. If you're doing shorter OCIs, then most nitrile will work OK. But silicone will ensure it will last regardless of the filter use conditions.

I cut one open recently (same filter) and the pleats weren’t wavy but not spaced very evenly. Came off of my son’s Charger. Also cut an SRT filter (MO-041 aka Wix 57063) and it looks a lot better but it’s dome end bypass. My 2500 6.4 uses the little minature MO-339. Wix list the 57063 as cellulose.

I didn’t think those Mopar filters were as great as the service writer boasted about them at the Ram dealership where my truck came from. This is why I use the Wix XP.

The WIX XP has horrific filtration efficiency unless that's recently changed under M+H ownership.

I was told the Wix XP filters where pretty good so if it’s filtering efficiency is “horrific” then what’s a good filter for the 2018 Ram 1500 5.7 Hemi?

Well, previously, I would have said the FRAM Ultra XG2, which is what I am running, but you'd have to confirm it fits, it's the larger SRT filter. It will fit on some trucks, but not on others, IIRC, depending on whether you are 4x4 or not. However, FRAM recently redesigned it and got rid of the synthetic media and the jury is still out on the durability of the new setup. If you can find some of the OG Ultra's (the smaller size filter is the XG10060) I would stock up.

Alternatives are the Royal Purple filter, which also has excellent efficiency, though not quite as good as the FRAM, and the AMSOIL EaO.

Yes, it’s 4WD.

I’ve heard that the Royal Purple filter is good but I want to say that the majority of the positive reviews on it over on the Ram Forum was for the larger of the two sizes they make for my truck’s engine and being that my filter is in a very tight spot, if I decided to switch to the smaller of the two Royal Purple filters, is that one just as good?

And when you mention the Amsoil filter, you’re referring to the one that’s good for 15,000 miles, correct? I’ve ran that filter before the one and only time I ran Amsoil’s Signature Series 5W20 but since I only change my oil about every 6,000 to 6500 miles, I figured both that filter and the oil was overkill due to its expense.

I don’t know where your info is coming from about the lackluster results from the Wix XP filter because back when I was considering doing another back to back run of the Amsoil SS, the Amsoil rep I talked to even said the Wix XP would be a suitable filter being that I change my oil far below Amsoil’s claim on interval. Oh, and even though I don’t want to run my oil changes longer than what it do due to the cam and lifter failures these motors are prone to, here lately, that many miles is only what I put on the truck a year.

Is that smaller Royal Purple filter really any smaller than the other brands that spec the required smaller size for that truck?

If you're doing 6000 mile oil changes you don't really need a huge filter.

Yes, the filtration efficiency of the smaller filter is just as good, it just has lower contaminant holding capacity.

Yes, though I run the larger filter on both my vehicles. I believe my DT has more room for the larger filter than your DS.

The AMSOIL rep wouldn't have any idea s to the efficiency of the WIX XP. You can do a search on here, @ZeeOSix has posted the efficiency data (that WIX used to share) in the past.

Better yet, he can look at Andrew's ISO 4548-12 efficiency test numbers. The WIX XP was in the test group. Graphs in the link below. The WIX XP was 62% @ 20μ.

When WIX use to show efficiency numbers for the XP on their website, it was shown as 50% @ 20μ.

Well, I guess that sounds about right, Wix says the XP filter’s micron rating is like 20 or 25 so it sounds like to me that it’s kinda hard to refer to it as horrid being that it’s doing what it was meant to do.
