I know if I had the car I could see the date of manufacture on the door jamb. I don't have the car and I don't feel like driving for an hour to get it. I do have the original window sticker and all the records and the VIN. I know it is a 1999 Toyota Camry.

I want to order some parts from my Lexus dealer and several parts and there are several parts that got changed in 8/99. Is there a way to decode the VIN to get the month of manufacture?

Strange, as anything after 8/99 should be a 2000 model.

The only real difference that I know between 97-99 and 00-01 were cosmetic. Slightly different headlights, front bumper, rear bumper and tail lights. Other than that it should be the same car.

Quattro Pete's link above doesn't work for my Camry, probably because it's a Camry.

The model year is simply encoded in the VIN. Tenth digit would be "X" for 1999 and "Y" for 2000. Also when the emissions sticker under the hood says "Meets requirements for model year 1999", that is your official model year.

Why didn't the dealer ask for your VIN and figure out the exact parts needed. You should not need to decode anything.

Good point. Unless the Lexus parts department doesn't have ability to look up parts by Toyota VIN. But if they can sell you a Toyota part, then they should also presumably be able to tell which specific Toyota vehicle that part is for.
