Model Y Long Range vs Model Y Performance - interesting notes

Motortrend gives the nod to the Long Range as the better value:

0-60, the Long Range is slower at 4.6 vs 3.7 seconds.... according to official numbers. But this is where things get a bit interesting.....

Back at our go-to California Speedway test facility and now fully instrumented, the Model Y Dual Motor Long Range hit 60 mph in just 4.1 seconds. That's just a tenth slower than the Jaguar I-Pace and a full second quicker than the Audi e-Tron, both of which are substantially more expensive. You already know this if you read our comparison between the Model 3, the I-Pace, and the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio, of course.

Forget those unicorns, though, because the Tesla is dead even with a V-8-powered 2020 Chevrolet Camaro SS. That's right, a five-passenger all-electric SUV hanging with a snarling, snorting Detroit muscle car. And this is the regular-strength Model Y, not even the Performance model.
Keep the pedal on the metal, and it'll finish a quarter-mile in 12.4 seconds at 114.8 mph, still dead even with that Camaro, slightly ahead of the Jag and pulling away, well clear of the Audi.

The Canadian website shows the Model Y Long Range with a 0-60 of 5s. Clearly, that figure is heavily sandbagged.

Car and Driver didn't do quite as well, but still significantly better than the numbers on the Tesla website:

0-60 in 4.4 and a 1/4 mile of 12.7 seconds @ 114Mph, the Mph being very close to motortrend.

Given the price delta between the Long Range and the Performance, and how surprisingly quick the Long Range is, I have to agree with Motortrend, that the Long Range is going to be a huge upgrade for most people in terms of performance while the Performance spec may offer little benefit while serving up poorer ride quality.

@OVERKILL have you driven one? I get confused as to who thinks what about these cars.
And yes, the Long Range AWD is the sweet spot for the Y.
Personally, I find the Model Y look kinda odd; some colors are better than others.
My understanding is they drive pretty much like the 3.

Your thoughts?

I've only driven an S and a 3, have not driven a Y yet. The 3 accelerated extremely well (Long Range) so I expect the Y will be similar as it is based heavily on the 3. I agree, some of the colours are definitely better than others. I prefer the "uberturbine" wheels on either black or grey with the black interior. I wish they'd offer real leather, lol.

Yep. Vegan leather only. Only way to fly.
When the new batteries come out, I just may get another car. Depends... Our Mid Range Model 3 is real easy to love...
Tesla needs HUD and side mirror blind spot detection. Lexus will spoil ya.

Funny thing about the acceleration... Take someone for a ride, give it some throttle and watch 'em squirm.
"Wow! Is this the fast one?"
"No, it's the slow one..."

OVERKILL is used to heated steering wheels, ultra fancy dead cow interiors and maybe even tach and speedo in front of him.
That ain't no Tesla. But I (and whack Elon) plan on convincing him... The Tesla mistique and cool factor will win him over.
Teslas are different; they are the future. As far as EVs go, they are the best.
As far as cars go, there is nothing else out there like them. A SUV that spanks a Camaro SS. Yep.

We all know he wants one... And he better listen to his lady...
Maybe he needs the Plaid, 0 to 60 under 2 seconds?
