Moblie 1 vs Royal Purple

i have a 2003 Pontiac Gram Am Eco Tech 2.2 4 cyl. 97,000. no oil usage or issues. i use Moblie 1 extended mileage. my driving is 70% highway, 30% city. my commute to work each day is 40min each way. is Royal Purple a better oil than Mobil 1 and is it worth the extra money? thanks.

I know little of RP, but have used M1 for years. I recently did a used oil analysis on a 07 Focus,9200 miles, and there was many miles left in the oil. Try Mobil 1 5w30 Extended Performance, it works well.

well i did search but didnt find anything about mobil 1 v RP but then again maybe i didnt search well enough. i had never heard of RP until reading about on this site.

mobil is factory fill in your car i beleive...RP is way expensive than mobil....RP (high performance oil) make sense for if you street or track race (or have a turbo engine)...or else u r not really benefitting much....for ur engine Ecotec (one of the finest engines made by GM)...u did be just fine with Valvoline, Pennzoil and GC....unless the manufacturer specified an oil to meet certain specific standard.... my suggestion:

GC or Valvoline SuperSyn 5w30!
and Save Your Money!

Agreed im pretty sure they did not put Mobil 1 in at the factory on the Grand Am.

The ecotec engines are made by Saab, not GM.

Hi,
for what it is worth, various versions of GM family 2 engines (Ecotec foundation) were developed and produced here in Australia at GM's engine factory and shipped to Germany, Korea and elsewhere. After inital and quite expected "issues" later versions have proven to be a great GM product
