Mobile 1 now Energy Conserving

So, apparently, Mobil 1 15w40 which many people run in motorcycles has switched to an Energy Conserving oil. I've always been told to stay away from friction modifiers with a wet clutch. So, if this is the case and they have added friction modifiers it may be time to quit using Mobil 1 auto in our bikes eh?

Has anyone else heard this?

sure, that's the 'conventional wisdom'. Just check the back of the bottle. if it says 'energy conserving' inside of the donut, then I wouldn't put it a wet clutch bike. JMO....

Mobil 1 15w40? I haven't seen that viscosity before. Or did you mean 15W-50 or 5W-40?

Doubt you'd see a EC doughnut on a 40w or 50w. What he saw may have been some meaningless marketing verbiage on the label, which is a far cry from the api doughnut/friction reduced/avoid in MC oil scare.

Most Mobil 1 oils contain friction modifiers (moly) including the motorcycle specific ones. Moly in limited amounts is not a problem for wet clutches.

I recently noticed that the ash content dropped from 1.47 to 1 on Mobil 1 15w50 , then I noticed the Phosphorus and Zinc has been lowered in a recent UOA.

Mobil1Vtwin is approved for wet clutch applications. Depending on your bike if you have a shared primary I would try it. If not try Redline MTL. I am running Mobil1Vtwin 20w50 in my engine & MTL in the primary and Redline shockproof heavy in the trans. Great combination IMO.
