You tell me. They are the factory oil for most things that revolve around performance. They are the biggest oil company in racing. And the most successful.

They are the world's most successful company. Their product's name, Mobil 1, is synonymous with Synthetic Oil. They have been in basically every racing venue used by almost every manufacturer.

They have to be doing something right. It is more than just money.

The odd thing re Exxon/Mobil is that the Exxon gasoline is not "top tier" gasoline. They can certainly afford the testing costs. Anybody have any ideas as to the reason XOM does obtain tt status?

Being big and profitable and having a huge marketing department they don't have to make a superior product. They have already sold the IDEA that they are superior. Being the best is not synominous with being the biggest.

Heard from a rep at Esso that they have 4 times (IIRC) the necessary quantity of cleansers in their fuel. And that they refuse to modify their gasoline formula to comply with Top Tier standards.

FWIW, I get 50Km more per tank of Esso fuel than I do Shell or Sunoco, which are both Top Tier.

OVERK1LL I agree with you... I get better mileage out of ESSO than the others when I use it. But I happen to get really good mileage out of Canadian Tire Gas and I get a $0.10/litre discount with their card. ($0.378/Gal)

I think the CT gas IS Esso.........

Interesting, thanks. I too have always obtained good mpg from Exxon. Been using Shell because of the higher claimed detergents.

The M1 EP does not meet GM specs 4718 and 6094. Their regular M1 does. This seems to indicate in the EP version, it is overwieighted with cleaning agents vs anti wear agents.

Doesn't matter to me, all my M1 is being returned at WalMart 12 bottles at a time

Recommended weights for GM (5w30 and 10w30) of Mobil 1 EP do meet the GM 6094M spec. They don't meet the 4718M though. I was just at AA and WM today and was looking at this.

It appears the money and fame has just created greed for more money and fame. Seems it has always been this way through out history. XOM is no different than any other company who became too large.

Just an opinion,

Don
