Just wondering why Mobil would have 2 classes of Synthetic Oil... and this is suppose to be 100% SYN... So there is Mobil 1 and now Mobil Super Synthetic...

What do you all think about this oil?

Believe this has been around for awhile, I have some in my stash from BOGO at AAP.
Most if not all major oil companies have many syn oil lines.
This is there budget SYN to have people buy that want cheaper product I guess, but only place sold near me is parts store and crazy expensive if not on sale.

It enables them to create the perception that there are 2 classes of synthetic with M1 being better.

When customers see Pennzoil or Castrol full synthetic, they get confused as to whether it compares to the cheap Mobil or the premium Mobil.

Both Pennzoil and Castrol have not dealt with this effectively. They created Premium Plus versions with no real differentiation. This further plays into the hands of Mobil whose Premium line up is very clearly differentiated.

Castrol have at last realized this and put in place an Edge Extended version but Pennzoil repeat the mistake by having Ultra with no obvious difference to Platinum.

Castrol originally offered Edge as a premium oil, with the black bottle oil still called Syntec.
Of course, the very good GC remained Syntec.
SOPUS offered Ultra as their premium oil, with Plat their lower tier syn and then QSUD at a price point below Plat.
MSS is XOM's lower tier offering.
It has a very nice add pack, very similar to M1.
It may use a different basestock blend, but since no two flavors of M1 seem to use the same basestock blends, that's probably irrelvant.
I'd use it as willingly as I'd use M1, just as I'd use QSUD as willingly as Plat or Ultra.
