The entire concept of "proprietary" is junk because any major competitor can test various samples and decompose the base oils etc with little effort... TominNJ did this back in the day on M1 and started a $hit storm.

Having said that.. I still think Mobil makes top shelf products at very good Walmart prices. Just picked up several gallons of Super 5000 High Mileage (which is a blend) Probably Group II + III for $13.50... Tough to beat that Value.

I obviously think XOM delivers the most bang for the buck as I use their products. Once I run through the Toyota 0W20 that I have for the wife's 07 Camry, it's going to get Mobil 1 0W20 as I understand that it is somewhat more viscos than the Toyota brand. I fully recognize that wanting them to be more forthcoming may be unreasonable given their market position. Having the dominant market share puts pressures on them in terms of competitor's negative advertising that others don't face. I suspect that's the real reason that they aren't more willing to share basic information. Things that they say, especially in print, may appear in competitor's ads, possibly taken out of context. Our dialogue may have softened my opinion somehwat.

Well I just saw the (new) Mobil Super Full Synthetic 5 qt jugs at Walmart. They look very much like the regular Mobil Super bottles that replaced the Mobil 5000. I did a search on this board, but didn't find anything usefull. I guess people are not sure what it is. It looks like Mobil is trying to go after the low end synthetic market that is held by Quaker State and the house brand synthetics. The Mobil Super Full Synthetic 5qt jug was $18.

I think it was kinda dumb to make the bottles look so much like the conventional oil bottles. Mobil should have made it a little different, or sold it under the Exxon name, and put a tiger on the bottle.

If Super is grp III,then maybe after all,top line M1 is in fact pao? Whatever M1 is,I feel it`s the best bang for your buck synthetic. I`ve tried a few different oils,and I went back to M1. It`s price/performance can`t be beat imo.

It`s price is ridiculous if you buy it at the suggested retail (which is now $8 a quart here). You have to get it either on sale (ie,Oreilly @ $4.99 a quart) or Walmart`s 5 quart jugs (which comes to around $5 a quart).

Like anything else, the smart shopper can get a deal.
If you use one of the Mobil 1s not sold in jugs, like 0W-40, you need only wait for one of the chains to offer a deal.
There are also MIRs on Mobil 1 now and then, as well as oil change specials including the expensive Mobil 1 oil filter at reasonable total cost.
Anyone who pays the regular price for Mobil 1, or any other oil, isn't paying attention.

Wow what a surprise they gave you nothing. With the SN oil it seems the problem oils seem to be hiding more stuff. IMHO

MSS is still non existent at Wally's in this area. At this point I have serious doubts as to whether it will ever appear nationally at Wally. It is looking much like MC7500, making only a brief appearance, if at all, at Wally.

Quaker State Horsepower Ultimate Durability here still remains unchallenged in the lower cost name brand synthetics.

I wonder if the new Super Synthetic is fortified with "Iron" like the regular Mobil 1?

Does anyone know if this is the same deal.
