I see they have replaced the Mobil Clean oils with a new name Mobil Super.

This includes a new oil called Super Synthetic.

I wonder if this is a straight up Group III only oil and the Mobil 1 oils are Group III, IV, V mixes.

That would be my assumption

Not when I spoke to them... they gave me the stone wall! I was not trying to find anything out, just what Group their oil was and they stated it was proprietary information?? [censored], I did not want the formula, just what Group it was. They are pulling a fast one on their customers, and it sucks. I used their oil for years until they did that to me. Thats when I left em' Not that their oil is not good, just the fact that they are so underhanded, and the 5w30 was too thin for my engine now. It seems to do much better with the 5w-40 wieght.

You obviously missed my sarcasm. I like and use M1. However, their unwilingness to provide any information under the guise of proprietary secrets is downright annoying. The level of infrormation that most of us are seeking could most likely be obtained by another company by simply buying a bottle of their product and analyzing it. It's not like we want the secret formula, just what group oil is in the bottle. If I remember correctly, Pennzoil was willing to reveal that PU was Group III oil.

For the poster who asked what is group III, it is hydrocracked crude as opposed to Group IV PAO and Group V esters.

I did ask XM about this oil and they very strongly infered it was GRP3. As we know, XM will not discuss all aspects of their oil.

Tig, Their relunctance to talk about their formulations in general terms is my only gripe with them. I think they have consistently made a fine product since the 70s, but have consistently kept the customer in the dark about the contents. They claim that it's for competitive reasons but the sort of information that people on this forum seek could be obtained by a competitor's chemical analysis of product contents. IMO, they want to keep consumers in the dark. I went back and looked at the Pennzoil response to questions and my memory was correct. Pennzoil states in a straight forward fashion that PU is a blend of grp III basestocks. I really wish that XOM would do the same thing with their products.

Teddyboy,
I agree with you on this, but it is just the way it is. For 30 years I didn't know about base stock groups. Ignorance is bliss. All I knew was the performance was very good. Two years ago I called and ask Mobil tech what group Mobil 1 oils were, and the tech said " we consider all Mobil 1 oils to be grp 4". Well since then I have learned that Mobil 1 base stocks were a mixture of up to 15 differant compounds.(that may not be the right word)So I guess XM makes their own base stocks to their desire that has proven to be fine, so telling the public what would be their grp is for Mobil 1 oils would be futile(very few would understand) and confidential.

But then you have Shell when you contact them will tell you what basestocks their products uses then you have ask what is up with EOM? Why are you trying to keep it a secret it just makes you want to ask more questions.

Well, I guess they might be ashamed of the poor quality of their base stock, or you wouldn't understand it if they told you, or their basestock is somewhat differant than others and they keep it close to the vest. Hush Hush you know. Also no oil company tells the public everything about their formulation. They only tell you enough to make you think "I got the scoup".

It's irrelevant at this point to even discuss this because they are all using blends to some degree.
