They sell us 87 octane as regular
They sell us 93 octane as premium
But no one wants to give us 90 octane as mid-grade.

No disrespect to the thread poster.. But this is probably the 50th thread on this issue. How many more people are going to contact mobil and post a thread about the reply they got?

Main reason I use Mobil 1, is my OEM (Ford) certifies the oil in the viscosities I use. Can't say that for most other synthetic oils on US market.
Huh? Ford is down to two viscosities, 5w20 and 5w30, for 99% of their gasoline applications. What viscosities of synthetic oils do you require that you can't find in other brands that meets Ford specs?
............
Ditto that in California, Nevada, and Arizona. Apparently Michigan is a truly unique and wonderful state that has an entirely different set of octane standards.Quote:

Here, regular is 87, mid-grade is 89, premium is 91, and the really good stuff is 94.

I'm still waiting to hear how so many people read one poster's results of a GC of Mobil 1 Extended Performance and have concluded that regular Mobil 1 is also now in the Group III category.![]()

It's known as the herd mentality.

I have-yet to find a "real" mid-grade fuel. All the ones I see listed as mid-grade are 89 octane.
They sell us 87 octane as regular
They sell us 93 octane as premium
But no one wants to give us 90 octane as mid-grade.
Boycott that 89 octane stuff. Don't buy it. Odds are, your vehicle runs the same on 87 octane - or it needs 93 octane for other reasons. If nobody buys the 89 octane, then either the price gap from 87 to 93 gets reduced, or the gas companies start giving us the real medium octane - so the octane scale works evenly ... ie... 87-90-93.

They are charging you mid-grade prices for a product that's only two octane numbers over regular. Why folks pay that price is beyond me. Even the small number of vehicles that require a tad higher octane should complain about pricing. 89 shoud be 33.3% more than regular.... not 50%.
Buy it all you want .... but my math says someone is cheating me - so I boycott!
