I see your point however I have seen a lot of turbocharged Mitsubishi's,Toyota's,Nissan's and Saab's go over 225K using nothing but dino oil and I doubt they were all well taken care of.

For example a friend had a 84 300ZX turbo with around 250k and the engine and turbo wouldn't die!It was the tranny that ultimately sent it to the scrap heap.

AndyH, I think that mass market oils simply aren't gonna fit the bill.

If you are gonna keep this car for a while and can limit your drain intervals to no more than 4,000 miles, you'd be best to start now with Schaeffer Supreme 7000 synthetic blend in 10W-30 and stick with that stuff for the life of the vehicle.

It's a very shear stable, Group II+ mineral base with around 20% PAO and a fantastic additive package.

Hard to beat at ~$3 per quart.

Yes, I agree. But don't worry, I have no plans to run dino in this car over the longterm. As I mentioned, I was only using it because so many people in the Subaru forums felt strongly about running dino oil in the WRX and STi for the first 10,000 miles

just what i have planned. mostly due to the reports of wrx/sti owners on NASIOC and other forums about ring sealing "issues". true or not i don't think waiting 'till 10,000 for synthetic will hurt.

Agreed, and I'm finally over the 10,000 mile mark on my STi (actually something like 11,000 miles now) and I'm running Castrol Syntec 0w-30 (German Castrol) on a planned 5,000 mile OCI. I'll UOA the GC @ 5,000 miles to see how the oil held up, I'm guessing it will be much better than any of the other oils I have used up to this point in time (Mobil Drive Clean 5w-30, Motorcraft Semi-Synthetic 5w-30, & Mobil Clean 7500 Semi-Synthetic 10w-30).
