I ran Rotella T6 5w-40 before this. Does that explain the titanium? Miles were 90% highway. This was an API SM MC5K. 50-56k on the odo for this run.

"Universal averages show typical wear for a Subaru 2.5L engine after about 4500 miles on the oil. Your oil was run for 5700 mile, and wear metals were well below averages. Your Forester's engine didn't seem to mind the slightly low viscosity whatsoever, and the excess sodium is a harmless additive in Mobil Clean 5000. This oil doesn't use titanium, but Conoco and Kendall do. Or maybe it's from an aftermarket part? The TBN was 3.0, plenty of active additive left. A TBN of 1.0 is low. Try up to 8000 miles next and then resample for another look."

With that titanium in there and low moly, this looks more like the SN Super 5000 stuff. Must have been the transition from Clean to Super?

Either way, I've got 1 case of Clean and 2 cases of Super to run in my Nissan.

Thanks for posting!

Even if it was marked 'SM', this is definetly the 'SN' formulation - high Na, low moly, and Ti - check the SN VOA.

Nice results!

I thought MC5K never went SN, being replaced by Super. Are you guys thinking they literally put the new formulation in some MC5K bottles during the swap over? I bought this at Walmart in late '10. This UOA was done about 6 weeks ago, and the oil was run from 'late 10 to early '11. With low wear numbers I'm inclined to stick with it. Except that I've got boat loads of Chevron Supreme to run through.

This is definitely the new version as the older SM had high moly and no titanium. They must have started putting the SN version in the Clean 5K during the transition to Super. It almost looks like a tranistions oil as well because the newer VOA's of it shows more titanium and no moly. Looks like a good oil to me! The critics thought this was a bad oil from a weak add pack but had pretty good tbn retention. Looks like a great UOA to me.

Bought in late 2010? You bet this is the SN formula, no matter what the bottle said. XOM was just using up old bottles while they changed their blending over.

No biggie.

Wonder where the magnesium came from too. Is it left over??? Alot left then. Me thinks we might need another uoa. Sheared a bit but all 5-30 seems to in dino.

An analysis like this makes me wonder why I don't just leave the 10W-30 in the SVX for a year or two?

If you can still get a TBN of 3 @ 5700 miles on what is advertized as a "5K" oil, and a suggestion that you go to 8K next time...

Why worry: you are driving a Subaru! "All We'll Drive!"

Cheers!

Keep in mind this was nearly all highway miles. L.A to Denver to Phoenix to L.A. to Denver to L.A.
