Mobil Clean 5000 5W30

I've used Mobil Clean 5000 5W30 in a Chevy 5.3L during break in and the motor now has about 16,000 miles on it. On the next oil change I was going to use Mobil 1 10W30.

My question is, would it matter going from a conventional 5w30 oil to a 10W30 synthetic oil?

Excellent choice, the M1 will serve you fine. 10w30 is also my choice over the 5w30 because we're both in Texas.

The only reason you should need to spend the extra money on M1(or any syn) is because you use your vehicle for extraodinarily severe service, defined as towing or hauling or temps below 0F or over 100 F on a consistent basis. Otherwise you can just go with the Mobil clean 5000 in 10w30 and change it at 5k and you'll be just fine, IMHO. 10w30 SM rated oil is pretty tough stuff.

I agree strongly.

Get some used oil analysis done and see what works for your vehicle, but I've seen it so many times that spending the $$$ on synthetic motor oils isn't cost effective, unless you are going for extended drains.

A run of the mill chevy motor will live a happy life with any API SM motor oil. Buy whats on sale.

If you had a turbocharged/supercharged/high performance application, then my tune would change a bit.

The answer to your original question is that you can switch any which way you choose. The little bit of oil you never get out will make no difference at all, going to or from synthetic oil.

Do you change your own oil, if not be careful about who you trust to do it. Make yourself aware of what oil and filter they use. Don't accept no-name filters or unknown oil. For warranty the dealer is a good bet for record keeping. Being suspicious is good when it comes to an investment as large as a new vehicle. Find some way to make sure the filter is actually changed and check the oil level before you leave, yourself.

Mobil 1 is a good oil but may not be a good choice, it's expensive. There are many other choices that will do the job for less money. If you are here you are interested enough to look for other solutions. I use Chevron Delo in my car and I think that dual gas/diesel rated oils are a great choice for every day driving. If you are willing to buy a case of 6 one gallon bottles it's about $2 a quart. Then go to our site oil filter site sponsor and buy a case of Wix oil filters. Change the oil and filter per warranty requirements and your engine will out last the fenders. And if you don't change your own oil it's time to learn. I have about 600k miles on a car doing exactly that.

Just food for thought.... Mobil 1 5w30 is thicker at operating temperature than Mobil 1 10w30 is.

Mobil 1 5w30, Mobil 1 10w30, Mobilclean5000 5w30, or even Superflo 5w30 should all get your engine to 200K without a problem
