Mobil 1 vs Pennzoil Platinum????????

It is not that much cheaper. 5 quarts PP $20 vs 4.28 quarts mobil 1 $22. I use PP and mobil 1 in my vehicles and my families' vehicles.

Depends on the car, how it's driven, whether warranty is a concern, etc...

For example, if I wanted a 30-weight oil that meets BMW LL-01, I'd have to go with Pennzoil Platinum.

On the other hand, if I had a car that specified Mobil 1 as the factory and service fill, I would prefer Mobil 1.

If I had a mainstream car and drove it like a mainstream driver, I'd pick whichever oil was on sale.

There isn't an "overall" choice, IMO.

I've used both, currently running PP, Mobil 1 has more Moly than PP. If you have a car who's manufacturer uses more moly in their proprietary oil than maybe prefer Mobil 1. But they are both good mass produced easy to find synthetics from the major oil companies.

I stopped using SynPower in my '01 Sienna because I felt it didn't have enough moly for my vehicle. The 1MZ-FE engine that is really hard on oil.

Both are great oils, and unless you really pushed the engine to it's limits I don't think you'll ever notice a difference. I mean really how many people on this site have ever had an oil related problem using ANY brand synthetic oil?

I like Mobil 1 because it`s a grp IV/V oil (at least my trusty old 15W50) and Mobil makes their own pao base stocks and additives instead of outsourcing.

These are both good oil's, the only way someone can decide which oil is best for them is too run one oil for a few oci's and get some UOA's and then run the other oil for a few oci's and get some UOA's.

Barely, from the UOAs I've seen. Like 60 ppm vs 90 ppm...neither one is exactly loaded with moly.

Except for the M1 HM which has over 200 Mo.

Pricing is nowhere near the same up here in Ontario though, Walmart has been selling 4.4L PP jugs all year long for only $21.88, while Mobil 1 isn't even close to that, I believe the cheapest I've seen their 4.4L jugs is around $27 or $28. But they don't even go on sale that often either, usually it's almost $40 for a 4.4L jug of M1 here.

Mobil is pretty mum on their formulations so you are not going to find much else other than opinions and conjecture. Both are good oils.

Both are high quality oils. I use Mobil-1, Synpower, Syntec or Pennzoil Platinum interchangeably depending upon which one I can get the best deal on. Generally I'm in for a dollar or less per quart on any of these after sales, rebates, etc.

The Walmart jugs are 5L...........

No in idependent testing conducted by Amsoil M1 always comes out second over all only to Amsoil. Penzoil Platnium is not even close in terms of over all industry standard tests to M1 with regards to performance. Now if you are just useing a $20 UOA test then sure they look about the same TBN normaly shows PP to be weak in the knees!
