Mobil 1 too many varieties

Too many variables creates opportunity imo. The opportunity lies in stores like Auto Zone and AAP, they often close out the duds that don't sell and opportunists like myself and many others here get to buy high quality oil cheap.

Walmart nearest to me does not stock Ultra Platinum. The one 15 miles away, bigger town/county seat, does. Also, my favorite NA beer and Motor City pizza, the only frozen pizza I care for other than Lou Malnati’s.

We have two “sister” Walmart stores built back to back …
Even at 12 miles apart - I shop them both bcs inventory is different …

I go to Walmart to get Mobil 1 Extended Performance 0w20.
They're out.
There is like 4 other varieties of 20 weight but not extended.
Well I wanted to switch over to Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 0w20, they didn't have that either.
3rd option Quaker State 0w20 Ultimate Protection well there out of that also.
No I don't do 20,000 miles maybe 8,000 miles max.

Just venting.
I need to buy more when its in stock.
Mobil 1 is frustrating with all the versions.
Now we have Mobil 1 ESP Euro 0w20.
My guess is Walmart more than likely has the oil you are looking for online.

Lucky for you, you ended up with an even better oil.

I'm always surprised people don't utilize the amazing technology with have available at our fingertips. You can check stock on the Walmart app or website before you leave. You can even order online for pickup or have it shipped to your house.

I think Walmart is selling all they can now in anticipation of Mobil 1 api sq Isac 7a oil arrival.

might be more noticeable bcs of shelf space at brick n mortar places - but majors and boutiques also have very extensive product lines …

I do have a question that so far no one has replied to in some of the other oil blogs. On a 0w or 5w oil the oil flows better at the cooler temps. When the oil heats up it thickens. So when doing an oil change why not change the oil when it's cold and all the oil is drained out of the engine??? On the VW air cooled engine I ran Castrol 20w-50 and drained them cold. When I rebuilt some of the engines they were spotless. My wife's Datsun B210 had over 180,000 miles on it and when I was on cruise some grease screwed up the drive belt so I had to rebuild that engine after I got back. The engine was spotless and the original honing marks were still on the cylinders.
So does it pay to do a hot oil change or not???

Oil does not get thicker as it heats up, it gets thinner

Doesn't this contradict the 0w-20 claim? "0w is better for cold starts since it flows better" or is this just advertisement jargon? I use Mobil 1 5W-30 on all my cars.

You’re assuming that the first number is a viscosity but it’s not. It’s simply a number that shows the winter rating of the oil. An oil that is 0w has better cold cranking performance over an oil that’s 5w. The second number is the hot viscosity.

So the advertising is true, in extreme cold conditions a 0w is going to help the engine start easier than a 5w will

Thanks for the prompt replies...so back to my original question. Does it make a difference when changing oil to do a hot oil change vs a cold oil change?

Why is the 0w going to give a better start?
