Sounds like a line I'd use if I worked for an oil company selling product and fielding questions.
 
Amsoil has to totally wrap their main product(s) around one year of service. So it might take some tap dancing to fulfill the spec's as they change. Most likely they're not going to see an OEM spec'd car for up to a year from availability.


This isn't uncommon for any outfit. How long after MC 5w-20 came out did it take for the others to react? There had to be so much demand for the product to justify the reformulation.

Interesting. I thought that was starting to NOT be an issue with the newest group-III's.

It's less and less of an issue, although -- surprise surprise -- bringing it closer to PAO in that respect also brings it closer to PAO in terms of solvency (i.e. not as good).

I`ll say this,I`ve been doing a TON of searching through the UOA`s are some of the very best ones are with Mobil 1.
 
Are some of the very worst Mobil 1 too? Just asking about the rest of the "un-some". I also imagine some of the best were with SuperTech and, of course, the venerable (said like the virgin in pajamas in "Demolition Man" when saying "diner and dancing at ... Taco Bell" ) Pennzoil conventional..

Absolutely! I`ve seen terrible ones with Mobil 1, Pennzoil Conventional and Valvoline Conventional. There was a guy here who had bearing failure with Mobil 1 15W50 and then another who ran Mobil 1 15W50 for over 14,000 miles and had only around 4ppm on iron and almost no copper. The engines that have impeccable uoa`s with Mobil 1 also have them with dino,as the engines with horrible uoa`s on Mobil 1 have equally horrible uoa`s with top notch dinos. I can`t help but think the high wear metals have nothing to do with the oil,but with the particular engines.

Imagine this. If someone bought Mobil Clean in a Mobil 1 bottle and ran it in their Corvette for 5000miles, I would put big dollars on that person not noticing ANY DIFFERENCE. Even with a complete spread of used oil analysis, I seriously doubt the Vette engine will grenade or show abnormal wear with the MC5K. Now how much less would your average Camry driver notice? Multiply the subjects 50 times, and you'll probably see more variation between each oil, than between the M1 and MC5K.


So really, we're all just shootin' the breeze in this thread. There's nothing wrong with that, but let's not expect any grand unified theories here

After many years of going through countless used oil analysis/VOAs and many hours of reading here. This finally confirms my suspicions of the regular line Mobil 1 oils.

All you do is guessing whereas GM has already determined that conventional oil is insufficient in a Corvette at its limit. You might not notice the damage in one oil change but over the life of the car it will suffer. You can play the guessing game all you want and I will stick to GM recommendation because I actually own a Corvette ZR-1.

No, the problem is saying how you invented GP3+ when most people should know that Shell are the first to have played with the slack wax. Shell stuck with it as their main performance base oil, only using pao in a few race specific ones. Shell have been using GP3+ and PAO blends for ages now in their racing oils, including Formula 1. Shell Helix Ultra has always used the slack wax base oil, but only now to Mobil want to talk about theirs.

Its not our fault Mobil kept their Shell copy Visom locked up in a little factory in France.

No, the problem is saying how you invented GP3+ when most people should know that Shell are the first to have played with the slack wax. Shell stuck with it as their main performance base oil, only using pao in a few race specific ones. Shell have been using GP3+ and PAO blends for ages now in their racing oils, including Formula 1. Yeah ..why did they waste all that time and R&D on PAO when they could have avoided all the costs ..all the work ..when GIII+ was dangling right next door for ...well ..a long time.

Now I've guess they've rethought their life choices ..(imagine some James T. Kirk presence with the Roman "in the round" type tone inserted here) ..to find a NEW LIGHT ..a beacon to guide them (softer tone here) and bring them back from their fools folly

When did shell start? The XOM literature points all the way back to 2003.

Are all Group III+ created equal?

Mobil is saying they've created a Group III+ with the same performance of PAO. Does Shell's version perform like this?
 
The answer to that question doesn't lye in used oil analysis it lyes in real world performance measured over time.
