mobil 1 oils to thin?

I have a maxima with the 3.5 VQ engine and was wondering since the mobil 1 5w30 is on the light side of the 30wt if it would still be my best application?

I usually switch back and forth to amsoil asl, I'm wondering if i should just stay with amsoil.

Mobil 1 oils aren't too thin at all. They stay in grade while giving maximum protection over the long haul.

Substitute one quart 5-30 with either 10-40 or 15-50.

The new Mobil 1 Extended Performance supposedly is a little thicker 5-30... so-says posters here.

Acording to the VOA posted by Stinky Peterson the SM GF-4 is slightly thicker than the EP Mobil 1 in both grades.

Just use the 5w30. It's a great oil that stays in grade for a long long time. UOA is always good for this engine when using 5W30 Mobil 1

No they aren't too thin.

In specification, as they say. But I tend to like Amsoil, just sort of a bias

Check used oil analysis, but I think there may be more variables to watch than starting vis in a given SAE range (as in "thick" 5w30 vs. "thin" 5w30.)

At 10cSt at 100C, Mobil 1 xW-30 oils are rather thin for their grade. (If they were 7 percent runnier, 9.3cSt, they would be xW-20 oils.) This makes them a great choice for new Fords and Hondas, but not for most VW/Audi engines, which thrive on most 40-weight (including Mobil 1 0W-40) and the heaviest 30-weight oils.

Yes they are thin but are they too thin is a question that depends on the engine so a search through the used oil analysis section for this engine would be your best bet.
