0W-40 in my 4Runner really did sound rattley, I posted it back in the day, and got semi shouted down...

Seems like the concept was known 80-90 years ago.

Many users have reported increased unpleasant noise with various grades of M1.
I can't say that I've really noticed it myself, but if I had an engine that ran noticeably rough and noisy on M1, I'd certainly not use it again.

just switched from Edge to PP, and the PP has more of a rattle sound to it....

Just turn the music up

Go figure, Mobil 1 0w-20 in our Fit calmed that engine down compared to the Pennzoil Conventional and Pennzoil Platinum that it saw before.

It's interesting how certain engines like certain brands, and not other brands.

Lead?? Surely you meant iron because some on here are losing sleep over Mobil 1 and the "iron issue".

My Corvette stays on M1 and the used oil analysis are excellent.

I agree. I never believed any of this Mobil 1 noise baloney...

Maybe not all baloney.
The construction of the M1 maybe very consistent, allowing certain frequencies to pass readily.
And when guys use thin M1 instead of their thick normal oil, there may be extra noise.

Nope, I meant LEAD. My lead was up the last couple of years using Mobil 1, switched to Castrol Edge and it immediately came down to 1/3 of what it was.

I believe that your iron went down with Edge. Still nobody knows why and, more importantly, there is no proof that it's a bad thing with the M1 increased iron either meaning I've never heard of any engine failures/excessive wear etc. Add in that so many OEM's using it as factory fill I stopped worrying.

All of my cars sounded much worse with M1, except my current 325. I've got 0-40 in it now and it actually sounds fine.

My older m50tu 325 really sounded terrible with any M1. It was only quiet with Delo 15-40.

You've never changed the oil, heard more noise and changed back to have it go away...believe what you want, as I've experienced it on a number of engines, and long before I had the internet or anyone else tell me that it was the case.

Anyway, you missed the point.

Olds Ciera 3300 sounded like it was pinging on Mobil 1 5w30, the old tri-synthetic formula.

I've heard this on here a few times, most people using Mobil 1 5w30. I never experienced it first hand though.

I just changed my Golf's factory fill Syntec 5w40 to Mobil 1 0w40. I've noticed little to no startup noises while the Syntec made some odd sounds the first 30 seconds or so. Everything after that sounded the same.

Our former Chrysler 3.8L engine definitely did not like the 5W-20 Mobil 1. But I've used the AFE 0W-20 in our Acura's 3.5L engine and it runs just fine in that.

It is funny how some engines tend to "like" some oils and not others.
