Was in Walmart today and swung buy the oil filter section to see if they had changed over to the new Purolator LX gold filters but they still are rocking the FRAM Endurance for now.

They did change over to the new Premium Guard made Mobil 1 filters. Best I can tell, they did a whole reset and left none of the old Purolator made filters. About all were PG made in Vietnam filters but found this one M1-212A made in South Korea.

louvers or holes?

Interesting to see a PG with elliptical holes

Yes if PG is behind this they have one of the MANY factories out of Korea producing a percentage of this Mobil contract... This factory obviously does not use the LEAK TESTED stamp or the typical base plate with holes but you can see the Vietnam version of this below from a recent thread does use the other base plate.

To me it’s interesting in that Premium Guard makes an oil filter they claim can handle 10k miles OCIs (I’m thinking specifically of MicroGuard Select from O’Reilly’s), yet now we have an M-1 oil filter made by PG claiming 20k mile OCIs.

Clearly those are being made to Mobil specs?

Bad ju-ju from Champ Labs caused Mobil to make the switch?

As to some M-1s from Puro still being on the shelf, unless you’re running OCIs at 12k miles or longer, I say just buy PG’s 10k mile filter and eliminate the guesswork.

Going forward I’m going to use the MicroGuard Select for the 2019 Outback in lieu of the consistently used Napa Gold over the past 50k miles with 6k mile OCIs.

Unless a C&P demonstrates that it’s “darling status” is no longer warranted.

I'm going to call Mobil customer tech line tomorrow and see if I can get an ISO 4548-12 efficiency spec on this new Mobil 1 filter. Will post here what I find out.
Can you ask them to confirm it for the M1-101A as well please?.
