I just got back from Pep Boys and they had all three in stock. Those are all basically the same filter correct? The RP is the same exact construction except for the full synthetic media correct? They all feel like they're the same weight and they all had the same shaped ADBV. All three are made my Champion Labs correct?

RP is best, followed by M1. K&N are not Korean made and are pretty lousy. USA made ones are about the same as M1.

I would have drove right past Pep Boys and went to Nappa and pick up a Nappa Gold filter.
Or use OEM but that's just me.

The K&N at Pep Boys today had a U.S.A. sticker on it as well as U.S.A. on the box. The M1 had no U.S.A. on the box but had "Product of USA" laser printed on the dome end next to the date code. All three filters were immaculate with beautiful high gloss paint jobs.
Royal purple is the highest quality synthetic media filter you can buy except its only single layer.
The Made in the USA K&N and M1 are almost identical, but the newer korean made ones lost efficiency. They went from mid 90s to mid 80s. If it's stamped made in the USA its good old stock and i would buy it. The made in Korea ones are pretty robust still but they never dropped the price so that's not passing anything to us consumers.
What interval are you going to run? The RP is the best out of the bunch but will be underutilized for your short intervals.

I might run two intervals on one filter if I get one of those high dollar ones. But 1 whole year to wait until cutting it open is a long time.
The K&N's distinguishing feature is the big nut welded to the top that makes removal easy. Internally, it is identical to the M1.
M1 and K&N are very similar constructions. RP is built very much like a Fram Ultra, same leaf spring with the nylon bypass valve, synthetic, wire backed media, and same base plate as a Fram.

The Royal Purple uses a synthetic filter media, the other two a cellulose/synthetic blend.

Did you look at FRAM ULTRA??? I hate to see people waste there $.
However RP is a fine oil filter.. M1 Im not a big fan of nor a FAN of K&N... I recently took 1 apart and it was a made in USA one and I was like WHAT????
I mean if you have the $ for RP and it makes you feel good to have a Royal Purple Oil Filter then by all means.. and if you use RP Oil that might even make you feel better.. You 100% Royal Purple... however I feel as far as oil filter Fram Ultra is the way to go and save $ and get a great oil filter.
but its what makes you feel better. Some people get piece of mind... I guess that's what you call it.

The Fram Ultra has dual layer of media compared to RP single layer so the Fram Ultra has the highest capacity for contamination amongst all the synthetic filter. The royal purple filter is still awesome but if you wanted to run the filters 2-3 oci the Ultra is the better choice there and costs less.

The only way to confirm that hypothesis would be to actually test the two filters.
The total media surface between the two seems to be approximately the same, so the capacity would be a function of the media itself at the particulate level. I might suppose that Fram is using a more porous media for the first layer and a denser media for the second, but their literature does not state that.
