I use a dremel with a cutting wheel to cut open my oil filters. They make specialized oil filter cutters such as this: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-900510?autofilter=1&part=SUM-900510&N=700+115&autoview=sku I wish I would've gotten that instead of the Dremel, personally.
