Mobil 1 High Mileage

Went oil shopping today and noticed 2 things about the Mobil 1 High Mileage that stirred my curiosity.

1. It was a SL not an SM...
2. No starburst from API...

Anyone know what the deal is with this?

I have been thinking of using the 10w30 in my 3 because it has a HT/HS of 3.66. This may be why it is not rated as energy conserving.

it's got a better add pack(higher additives)then API SM allows
and 2 it's not a energy conserving oil is why no starburst correct me if i'm worng.

M1's 10w30HM is a great robust oil.

SM and starburst ain't everything. Viscosity/HTHS too high to qualify as a starburst/energy conserving oil.

On the up side, it has higher antiwear ZDDP additive levels than SM oils.

High Mileage oils are usually like this-no starburst, but usually SM, however.

I certainly wouldn't worry about the SL designation.

The fact that it is SL & non energy-conserving makes it better...that is why it has all those extra goodies in it...If your car burns a QT a week, then may not be best choice if you have a car with O2 sensors & cats, but otherwise for HM DD probably best synthetic in my opinion based on the popular opinion & the additives this oil has

I've had great experience with Mobil 1 High Mileage with regard to lower oil temps and turning dark quickly in dirtier engines. It leads me to believe it is cleaning, but I'm only speculating as I have no empirical data to back that claim.

It's also ACEA A3 rated and has one of the lowest pour points of any synthetic 10w30 (-54C)...

I don't know as I have only used GC in the past. But both are very good oils if one wants a synthetic that is a little thicker, but flows at very low temps while meeting rigorous spec's...
