Mobil 1 Has Quieted My Engine...

I often read posts on how Mobil 1 has been noisier is people's engines. I've run Mobil 1 in my 3.3L Caravan motor since mid summer and it has quieted the engine a fair bit. I used to get this noisy marble-rattling type of noise coming from within the engine block at idle with all other oils I've run. Since running Mobil 1 the noise has been gone away and has never returned. I also found that lifter noise is less at idle on Mobil 1, the oil seems to drain out quickly after engine shutdown, but it quickly fills the lifters on start up after a second or so. I just thought I'd post this in defence of Mobil 1.

In general the thicker oil grades would quite your engine down, regardless of oil brands or origins.
The ability of the filter to retain oil after the engine shut-off has nothing to do with the oil and everything to do with the design and quality of the filter.

Mobil 1 has always been very quiet in my cars, which have been small 4cyincers for the most part. My brother's 3.0L Toyota V6 is very quiet with M1. vad makes a good point.

I've noticed a difference in lower noise levels since they went from SL to SM grade oil. I think that happened some time last year ? Maybe there won't be so many complaints about noise with the new Mobil's ??

My Infiniti's 3.0L V6 is no quieter with Mobil 1 Extended Performance 10w30 (SM) than it was with Mobil 1 5w30 (SL). It could idle more quietly than it does, no doubt, but it does not bother me as much as it does others on this board.

Now, if it rattled, I'd complain!

Well if it works for you, yippee! My own experience over 694,000 miles has been the engine runs a bit easier, and a tad bit noiser on the switch from any other oil. However I would not characterize any of the applications I have as "noisey" For me this has been a total non issue.

I just recently changed from a conventional oem fill 5w20, a 10,000 mile OCI to a Mobil 1 0w20. I notice an immediate smoother running and over 9k miles have gotten a range of .5 to 3 mpg better. old was 35-38 mpg, new is currently 36-41 mpg. Now in truth, I do not know if it is due to new engine break in, viscosity difference or even the switch from conventional to synthetic.

I have never noticed a difference. The infamous GM V-6 Piston Slap was no better with M 1 . Thats just my experience. Not really arguing.
