After looking at the Oil Filter Study , I have to question why the Mobil 1 filter and K+N are the only 2 filters without any spiral groves or ridges built into the center tube ? With the apex of the folded media ( thicker in the Mobil 1 than the K+N ) sitting on top of the holes in the tubes what is the "true effective hole area " compared to other much cheaper filters , even the Frams ?
Is this why the Mobil 1 filters have a rep for being more restrictive even when new ?
Amsoil,Baldwin,Donaldson,Hastings all have more area in the center tube with recessed slots to prevent the media from sitting on top of the openings.
The K+N with the same flat tube has thinner media and more area in the center tube that the Mobil 1, allowing more flow.
Does this strike a nerve with anyone else ?
I just think we should get a little more from Mobil 1 for our money.
