This one is from a 2002 Silverado 2500HD 6.0/4L80E Most of those miles towing.
I change the oil yearly or at 5000 miles. I won't run the truck more than that. It lives a very hard duty cycle life. Tow, sit, tow sit.
You get the picture.
Enjoy.

how did the media feel? was it hard? I just cut one open today that was on almost a year but low miles and the media was hard and brittle.

Looks very good friend

It was very nice. Not brittle at all.
Made me happy because the truck has the worst duty cycle

That made me laugh...

My last name is Friend.

What oil are you using.
I agree that that filter is overkill for your OCI.
A Wix or Tough Guard is a better bargain and will work great for that interval.
Not that I am one that would do it, but sounds like you could do an annual oil drain and fill and then the filter every other change with a Fram Ultra.

Running Mobil 1 10W-30 and while you guys might be right, it gets hot under that hood when you are lugging a combined weight of 14500 up Vantage in the Summer here in Washington at 60 MPH at 3800 to 4500 RPM.

I tow over lots of "Big Hills" in the summer. Better safe than sorry.

It is really cheap insurance once a year. I get the Autozone deal and buy one extra quart of oil. It is like 38 bucks and 20 minutes of my time. I sleep good knowing the truck will have fresh oil and filter for the camping season.
I do the power steering fluid every year as well(hydroboost brakes) and the Tranny fluid every two years.

It is a lot to lug around.

So it is 315HP and 365FT/LBS of torque.

Does just fine, I only get about 8mpg when towing. Wish it had the newer 6 speed guys love it.

I have had it on some of the larger passes out west and in the Rockies with no issue.

Best I can describe it is my brother in law had your truck for years. It was 1998 5.9/NV4500 1 ton dually

They tow almost identically power wise. I have used both to two a similar load.

When I retire I will get my last truck which will be a diesel.

That EP is very good for the price - that filter is built like a tank. I'm just running 5K in ecoboost doing way, way, less than that truck - just the fuel diluted oil that motor can bring.
Do you still have the filter ? Would love to see that tube ( louvre threads continue on )

...

That is true. Those deals are decent most of the time, and come around a few times a year.

I like the mobil filters - had one on a trans for several years - I don't recall the mileage - 25k? and it looked great when I pulled it out. nicely made, thick media.
