I had the spectral exam rerun on this sample, and the phosphorus value did
come back a little lower than before at 822 ppm. (As with any sort of
scientific testing, there is a margin of error with our analysis).
Obviously that is still a little higher than the limit you provided, and if
the phosphorus content is a serious concern for you then maybe this Mobil 1
isn't the right pick. From our view, we still think this oil would perform
well.
I believe we do perform the same testing as Mobil 1 would on their oils.
I'm not sure what particular page you were looking at on their website, but
I found a Safety Data Sheet for the ESP X2 0W/20 oil, and it says they test
the viscosity according to the ASTM Method D 445, which is the same method
we adhere to in our lab. Even in virgin samples, though, there can be
variation in viscosity (and additive levels too for that matter) so I don't
think it's anything to be overly concerned by. The viscosity at 9.56 cSt
was still within the expected range for an unused 0W/20-grade oil.
