Mobil 1 ESP in hybrid

I did my search some time ago.

Here's what I found.

Selecting the Right Oil for Your Vehicle (section)

Here is a fellow BITOGer MolaKule:

In these words people who claim thicker oil gets up to temperature quicker (than lower viscosity oil) are wrong.
You posted almost the exact same post three weeks ago, with the same links, and @Hohn educated you on your misunderstanding and misapplication of what MolaKule was saying.

You hoping for round 2 here?

He educated me with his own theory.
I still haven't received any scientific proof of that. And I think he is talking about different thing that I'm stating.

More viscous oil may gets hotter when flows around the engine but how much more for the different viscosities and at what ambient temperature. The oil heats itself while circulating - how much? Do you know how many other internals heat up the oil much more than its own flowing resistance?

I'm talking about how quickly the oil absorbs heat from the engine, and that is similar to how the coolant works - it absorbs heat. The oil also also absorbs heat. And my claim is that lower viscosity oils absorbs heat quicker which is important in the winter.

Why are you changing the oil at 3k when Toyota says to go 10k? Severe duty or just because? Doesn't your car call for 0w-16?
My 2025 Camry recommends 0W-8. I use Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy 0W-30. Runs good on it, and no drop in MPGs that I can tell. I change it every 3, 3500 because I want to keep the engine clean for the many 100s of thousands of miles I plan to put on it. So I don't have to buy another new expensive car. 5k oil changes would probably be ok too for the longterm, but this is the way I choose to do it. There's gas that gets in the oil too, so i figure it's a bonus to get it out with the frequent oil changes. Who knows what constitutes "severe duty." My car sees 4 seasons, crappy roads, high speeds at times, lots of stops and starts and short trips in the cold, etc. I'm a road warrior. It's one of the main tools I use to make a living. It represents freedom. So I take good care of it, and we'll see what happens. I put "top tier" gas in it, and some Techron-type cleaner in the gas tank every 5k or so, thinking maybe the injectors won't get clogged that way. It's all a crap shoot I guess.

It never ends...
Mobil 1 Advanced Clean does seem like an interesting oil. Is Mobil 1 Extended Performance the oil you ran that now requires you to run a cleaning oil? I prefer ones with guaranteed performance. Porsche A40 requires zero visible piston deposits to pass, for example. All of the approvals are much stricter than anything API. But different strokes and all. Mobil 1 Extended Performance seems like it has worked for a lot of people over the years.

dumped the 0w-8, FF at 150 miles and am now running the green 20grade ESP in my 2026 camry. car now has 200miles, will do 2 more before the first 5,000 miles then will do 5k oci, after. mileage is still above 40mpg

if i get bored i'll probably go up a grade to ESP 0w-30

Usually when the topic of oil for hybrids comes up someone always seems to mention oil temperature but no one ever said what they run at, so I decided to check.

This is from my commute to work this morning, car is a 2022 Camry Hybrid LE running Amsoil 0w-16 hybrid oil. The coolant heats up pretty quick, the oil not so much. 10 miles in I hit the first stop sign, coolant temp was 165 oil temp was 120. The next 3 pics are about 30 ish miles into the commute when I first got on interstate, the second is 20 miles later when I was about to get off interstate and the third is after I parked when I got to work. Cruise set at 74mph on interstate. The engine seems to run at 1400 to 1500 rpm’s most of the time at pretty much any constant speed. I never seen the oil temp over 172 degrees the couple of times I looked at it. Coolant temp seems to run 195 at interstate speeds but once I got off interstate it stayed around 185.

I posted on another thread a while back about my 30 minute travel (ambient temp 28F) and how the oil temp only reached 180F once but averaged 174-176F during that trip. What was telling is that the 0W-20 oil which has a 8.8 cSt at 100C really was a 12.95cSt at that oil temperature.

Which vehicle?

I see as high as 190f in my TX500h, but it's a performance hybrid setup. During short trips around town, I've seen it hover around 150F.

I change my oil every 3-4 months or 3K, whichever comes first.
