looking more in to it, looks like the X4 have Porsche A40 and C40 approvals, and the X3 have Porsche C40, (if we look only at Porsche approvals)

The X4 PDS was updated recently to add A40. Somewhat odd because this contradicts the product positioning and advice of everyone else previously regarding A3/B4 (A40 base sec) and C3 (C40 base spec) interoperability. It makes sense from a practical perspective, since I am guessing one could make a C40 oil that would pass A40 tests, discounting the spec minimums.

It's the base oil that carries the strength of this Mobil-1 ESP.
Definitely should be on someone's purchase radar, who's looking for a SP in 12.5 viscosity range.

5/30 esp or the standard Euro A3/B4 0/40 /5/40

It meets C30/VW504, and it dropped Dexos 2, as it's being discontinued in 2025. In terms of anti-wear requirements, VW504/C30 is about as good as it gets. It's high quality oil, very "stout", don't hesitate to use it.

I think MB 229.5 is about as good as it gets for wear prevention.
