We’re picking up a 2024 Kia Carnival next week with the dual-injection Smartstream V6, and wondering which 0w20 to go with. Ideally I’d like to go with one with the highest HTHS. The manual isn’t overly specific, other than recommending 0w20 that meets API SN+/SP. No other manufacturer-specific standards to meet. Some of the euro oils meet API SP while also meeting more stringent tests like Porsche C20 and ACEA C6, like Mobil 1 ESP X2 0w20. Not sure on the HTHS on oils like this, as my euro oil knowledge is more the A3/B4 variety like I use in our TGDI Explorer.

Kia has mentioned ACEA in US owners manuals before

Any ACEA-rated 0w20 should be good, or dexosd (which will replace dexos2 next year), or C20 like you mentioned.

FWIW, even Mobil 1 thinks the ESP X2 0w20 would be fine, and it lists it along with all the other 0w20s they offer when I do the “select an oil for my vehicle” process. The X2 actually has a slightly lower cSt than the other 0w20s, but I’m assuming a higher HTHS. Would this be a correct assumption?

US manual Thickest 0w20 --use a couple quarts of 0w30 or 5w30.

MOTUL VAG C20 doesn't show a higher HTHS.

In service I had to add a litre of 0W40 FS so my VW Tsi engine would run properly and not clatter all the time.

No the HT/HS will be the same as other 0w20's.

Any of the oils you mentioned would be fine. I'd likely use the Mobil 1, EDGE 0w20, Valvoline R&P 0w20 or Amsoil SS 0w20. Those would be my choices in no particular order.

Magnatec was far and away the budget choice a few years ago. It's gone.

I got to find and CONFIRM what the dealer put in my FORD for it's first dealer oil change recently. It better running and smoother than anything I had in there in the past 3 years.
And that includes Valvoline Advanced, various QS synthetic grades, and some horrid Castrol edge 5W20.

They stated Motorcraft 5W20 SS but I gotta see the bulk tank and paperwork to be convinced.

I would really like to stick with 0w20 since the manual calls it out, given the warranty.
I also just bought a 24.
The manual states you can use an oil with a higher viscosity if the van will be used in high heat high load situations. Road trip in the summer.
The 0w20 is a recommendation not an actual warranty requirement.
I have been running a 5w30 since 1000kms.

We have a few summer trips coming.
I also prefer a 30 with timing chains.
