Mobil 1 ATF vs. Mercon V

Thanks TooSlick.

Cobra... I changed to Mobil 1 ATF a year ago when the vehicle had less than 1K miles. I then did 1/2 changeout last week (4 quarts in the pan). I really wonder if there are additional benefits going with another bottle of the LubeGuard (red bottle).. Are there benefits since I'm using the Mobil 1?

If there are no shifting or other trans related performance problems, then don't add anything. We add the 'Lube Gard' yearly just to keep the HFM additives robust. Never had a problem with that, and according to Lube-Gard, that won't 'over-treat' the fluid either.
My feeling is that the Mobil 1 ATF is superior in a lot of areas, but not so much in the friction-management department. So, I add the Lube Gard. Just a feeling though. No hard facts, just experience.

Hi,
I've been looking for MERCON V,and found some at Auto Zone. In bright blue plastic branded AAMCO transmissions @ 2.99 qt. The maker seems to be Exon/Mobil. Cheaper than others and approved by Ford. Do you think AAMCO wants to help business?

I have many vehicles out with Amsoil ATF, many with 100,000 miles of trouble free service. Never one complaint in 22 yrs.

Ford seems to have a lot of trans problems, our 1993 Ford F150 has the trans fail at around 50,000 miles, parked the truck and went to leave a hour later and nothing. The Ford Remanunfactured replacement only last about 5,000 miles when we were driving down the road and the trans starting slipping so bad we could not move it. We had quite a few other 1993 up Fords in the fleet that also had trans failures. The Ford was maintained by the Ford Dealers, no synthetics were permitted by the leasor.
