I need to do a drain/fill on my 04 Maxima and I was thinking of switching to a synthetic ATF like Mobil 1. I know Nissan is very adament on using nissan matic K only for my application. According to the Mobil 1 website it is a replacement ATF for my application(matic K) and it exceeds the JASO 1-A performance requirements. Is this safe to use? Just don't want transmission problems down the line.

M1 ATF is a very good transmission fluid and can be used in many transmissions.

I tried M1 ATF in my '00 MB E430 power steering system, it did not stop the whining after the car was driven more than 10 minutes.

Valvoline Maxlife PSF is the right fluid for my E430, since I had in in the system the steering is as quiet as it was new.

I've been using M1 ATF in my Maxima since 20K miles. I change the fluid out (drain/refill) every 20 - 30K miles.

Do you find your shifts are more smooth or about the same as matic K, especially first thing in the morning when putting it into drive or reverse?

I'm very happy with Mobil 1 ATF in my Buick. It shifts like new.

I had a lot of whining in my Buicks PS system which hadn't received its first fluid chage (turkey baster method) until about 70K. It continued to whine so I added LubeGard PS treatment. It continued to whine so I added approx. 2 oz. of Auto-RX and ran it about 1000 miles. The whining has completely stopped and the system feels like new at 111K.
I did 3 D&R's of the reservior with a TB within approx. 600miles using Walmart ST PS fluid. I am not a schill for Auto-RX but I recommend it to anybody who has a PS system whine while using the proper fluid. I'm very happy with the results.

Flush or baster method? I had to flush to get rid of the noise the Royal Purple caused......

Turkey Baster method once a day or two until the quart bottle is used.

I tried Dexron III ATF, Prestone PSF, M1 ATF ... and none can quiet the Power Steering system on that car until I had Maxlife PSF in the system.

If the whine comes back I'll try ARX, but so far it is very quiet.

I didn't notice a difference. My fluid was still very light red when I changed it. The transmission feels the same as when I left the dealership when I bought the car. :)

I used 3L of fluid using the baster method and I STILL had the noise.

I had to pull the return line and do a full flush to completely get rid of it.

My truck's PS is starting to whine on the first start of the mornings. Time for a flush, I've never had success with the baster method either.
