A recent Mobil 1 15w50 used oil analysis shows very low additives compared to the previous generation.

I am now totally convinced we are gettting an inferior product.

Mobil may have been driven by product, EOM the now owner of Mobil 1 may be driven by marketing. You see, they are not making enough money and need to cut corners where they can. After loosing the dispute with Castrol they would be fools not to go back to the lab and make corrections for the new rules. Just because a bunch of geeks on bitog caught the changes does not mean the new M1 is cheaper to make than before.

Tooslick made a point a few months ago, maybe even a year ago, how M1's Noak has gone up quite a bit from what it used to be. This is probably due to the Group III that has been used in M1 for quite some time. Even the Japanese website as I posted shows "PAO + Hydroprocessed" for the 5w/10w-30 grades while the 0w-40 and 0w30 grades are still PAO only. So, I think they have been using this mix for a long while.

Not really, PPDs can be used with Group III to give pour points close to fully formulated PAO based oils. More telling would be the CCS, MRV, NOACK, HTHS Flash points, etc, taken as a whole. Note, EOM stopped publishing CCS and MRV values on M1 shortly before Group III was detected. HTHS took a hit about the time Group IIIs were detected...

I was strolling through Walmart this past weekend and of course gravitated over to the oil section. I picked up the equivalent bottles of Mobil 1 Extended Performance and regular M1 to compare, and found any temperature pour point specs. to be conspicuously absent from the EP, while Mobil 1 still lists it pour point as roughly -53F, with variances depending on the grade.

Well there are certain applications that depended on what the old Mobil 1 15w50 delivered in terms of HTHS. EOM didn't do some people favors when they reduced this spec along with the additives.

Further, Terry has hinted about the abysmal used oil analysis Mobil 1 has been returning of late. I refused to believe him, but now that the cat's out of the bag that EOM is more into maximizing profits than providing the best lubes for the $, they've lost all creditability with me.

I personally will look to lubes that deliver, rather than relying on EOM's marketing department ability to cash in on the previous autonomous Mobil Corp's hard earned reputation for quality.

The end of the line with Mobil 1 for me. One possible caveat may be using only Mobil 1 with a listed pour point on the back of the bottle, but even then, I'd buy Pennzoil Platinum and possibly use AMSOIL or GC for winter applications, depending on where I may be located in the colder months...
