I think the mods see the humor and seem not to have a hair trigger on the ban hammer. They've tolerated it since 2005, much of it much edgier than that. But if the forum has become more sensitive, then it would probably be an easy way to decrease the screen time in my life, which might be a good thing.I'm with you but be careful, you may be right on the edge of the ban-hammer around here for being negatively insightful.

Are engines the same as they were 25 years ago? You have a proven API spec oil that will clean piston rings back to factory clean and keep them clean and is returning phenomenal used oil analysis, and people want to look a gift horse in the mouth.
Maybe this is where the misunderstanding lies. It's not a cleaning oil. It's a fully formulated API spec oil that can be run from the showroom until the scrapyard, and it also happens to clean piston rings back to their original state.

The gift horse I've had is in the form of Mobil 1 products, which have been outstanding. They've been great for my engines.
I think the misunderstanding is that you have to run Valvoline Restore and Protect to have a clean engine. There are countless threads on here with engines that are clean as can be running a number of different oils.
I love that Valvoline Restore and Protect is an option. I applaud Valvoline for what appears so far to be a great new product. Really an amazing product. It looks like it will be wonderful for those who need it and/or choose it.
% agree plus you don't see Valvoline Restore and Protect in the crankcase of any GT3's or 488 Pista's. If one can afford a better oil that's the way I'm going.If my engines ran like crap I'd try anything and Valvoline Restore and Protect would definitely be first on the list.
Agree! Mobil 1 makes great products.
Changing the oil every 6 months seems overkill unless you're only doing very short trip drives in cold weather. A '98 with 40K miles is an average of ~1500 miles a year. The C5 Vette owner's manual says 1 year OCIs is OK, or the OLM ... which ever pops up first.

Based on the look on the gal's face he's with, he's probably not going home with either one ... that's scenario #3.
They should have said something like it "cleans with every oil change" (since there is no level of cleaning defined), since everyone here (and Mobil too) knows it's not going to clean a dirty engine in just one oil change. Most reading that statement will think that, taking it literally. Weasel worded advertising.
Maybe they should have said "cleans a little bit in each oil change".And even if it just slightly cleans it up by 5% in one oil change then they can still say “cleans in one oil change”. Kinda shady marketing I think

One Mobil oil that I've used for at least 2 years and would not recommend to anyone (and people on here don't recommend it either) is Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy 0W-20. Anybody heared anything good about this oil?
This was the oil my car consumed the most and most likely made my engine dirty for only 5-6K miles. Also I had a fuel dilution issue (misfire) by that same time too that contributed to that oil performance.

Never cared much for the Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy oils. I think they should drop them personally. It's marketing. Noack for Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy 0w20/0w30 has never been great either.
I agree, but I must admit this...I ran the Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy 0w20 one time for about 5k in my 2018 Jeep and did a used oil analysis. It came back in great shape with very low wear metals. I can't fully remember, but I think I ran it because Walmart was out of EP and I needed to get it done ASAP before a trip. And I was curious, as well.
Anyway, I still like Mobil 1's other options better.

The Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy oils were just the spin-out of the regular Mobil 1 0W-20 and 0W-30 into their own category for better exposure, from a formulation perspective, they are the same as the regular Mobil 1 product line, which means they should be as good as any other API/ILSAC Mobil 1 offering in that category.
Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy 0W-30 was probably the oil I used the most in our Expedition with a good showing, zero consumption, while the same engine drank AMSOIL AZO 0W-30 like it was Coors Light at a ballgame. Attempting to link consumption to quality relies on pretty tenuous correlation.
As far as performance goes, I'd expect it to perform as well as any other standard Mobil 1 product, which should be better than other synthetics offered at a lower price point. This is touched-on in one of the videos @buster shared from EE, where Mobil talks about their standards for the Mobil 1 product line (versus the API limits), and their even higher standards for the EP product line.
Depends on the engine family too, some run clean and are easy on oil, some just don’t, as evidenced all over this site. Myself and others here have seen evidence of ring pack cleaning in our filters after switching to HPL, in engines that have seen diets of OTS oils like Mobil, Pennzoil, etc. by the marketing metrics these engines should be clean! Mind you I’m not talking about sludge or varnish cleaning, any decent oil can keep those at bay, just rings and pistons.
