Mobil 1 75w-90 in manual transaxles?

Well, I recently had a CV boot replaced, so the shop had to drain out my Redline MT-90 outa my transaxle in my 94 Corolla to remove the inboard axle. $30 bucks down the drain. Later they indicated they could have saved it and re-used it, but oh well.

Can you all that have used Mobil 1 75w-90 in transmisions/transaxles chime in? How was the shifting etc. compared to other products used?

Buster especially: you indicated you use it in your manual transaxle in your Toyota Corolla. How is it? Just looking for something readily available and cheaper than Redline. Thanks much!

Oh, also, should I be concerned with seal leaks if I use this stuff?

I have been using Ford part number XT-M5-QS 75w-90 in my manual transmissions " excepting the old Vette , it gets 80/90 " . It's a PAO/Ester blend made by Conoco and is a GL-3-GL-4 fluid . If you have a friend that works for a Ford/Mercury Dealer he/she can buy it reasonable . Otherwise price varies tremendously it seems between the dealer ring especially on that lube and the Motorcraft HD 10w30 motor oil .

Redline MT-90 in a '94 Corolla? Gee, Drew, you really take care of your vehicles!

The Corolla manual transmission is one of the smoothest shifting gearboxes I've come across. I've got a '95 Corolla, and I replaced the transmission fluid with Valvoline SynPower 75W-90. They sell it everywhere, and the transmission behaves just as good as it always did.

I'd put MT-90 back in it. I've read too many problems with shifting when using M1 75W-90. I've seen that a mix of MTL and MT-90 has the best shifting. I'm using RL all the way around in my drivetrain. When cost isn't a factor, nothing beats Redline!

Hi Drew,

depending on the GL requirement, Mobil 1 gear oils are a excellent choice

If you read previous posts from Jerry (heyjay) and I on our use of these lubricants in heavy trucks you will get a better picture

I have a number of vehicles that have covered over 1m kms (620k miles) on these lubricants and without an oil change. used oil analysis support this!

Havn't tried M1 gear oil. I'm about to dump Castrol Syntrans from the 89 Mazda 626 transaxle and move to Redline MT90 (I'll report on any change). Also use RL in our Outbacks p/s, manual trans and rear diff. Only the best for our Outback!

if your car requires GL4 rated fluid? put the MT-90 back in for the Mobil 1 stuff is GL5 rated which is NOT good for yellow metal parts of transmissions (example-brass syncros). FIND a Redline mt-90 container and on the side of it, it explains the problem with GL-5 fluids in a GL-4 rated transmisson!
