That's a recent document (5/27/10) It's one of two approved products for Porsche HT/HS requirements.

First I've heard of it and the 0w50 racing oil.
 
5W-50 has been the standard M1 downunder for more than a decade, phasing out the "normal" 15W-50 that was the shelf grade for ages prior to that.
 
Much more than a decade here,I can't remember it being anything but 5W-50.I don't know what it was when it first hit the shelves - I was working at a Mobil station back then.It was like having the Crown Jewels on display,people would come just to look at it.We had to keep polishing the bottle because all it did was get dusty.I don't think it ever sold,they probably still have the bottle somewhere.
 
It used to be available everywhere in Canada as well (WM, CT, parts stores) but it now seems to have been replaced by Mobil 1 15W-50, which is on the shelves at all those places.

I've heard that this is the factory and service fill for the McLaren Mercedes SLR, the Ford GT, and a few other really fast Mustangs (e.g. Shelby GT500 if I'm not mistaken). Ford and Mercedes dealerships should have it, or at least be able to order it.
 
Correct. Ford PN is XO-5w50-QGT. Some dealers will mark it up like there's no tomorrow (I've heard as high as $15), though most sell it for around $10/qt.

It is factory fill on the Ford GT and Shelby GT500.

I don't believe Mobil 1 5W-50 is the factory fill on the GT500. I have my doubts about it being the factory fill on the Ford GT too.

Reason being is the oil doesn't meet Ford WSS-M2C931-B oil specification.

Why would it be in the crankcase from the factory then?

I believe factory fill on both the Ford GT and GT500 is Ford Motorcraft (Conoco Philips) 5w-50 synthetic, not Mobil 1 5W-50.
 
Sooo much bad information and misunderstanding in that thread!

BTW, the oil distributor I work for sells the Motorcraft 5w-50 for $64.48 for 12 quarts. Pennzoil Platinum 5w-50 is $37.92 for 6 quarts, and Quaker State 5w-50 is $35.76 for 6. If you need/want a 5W-50 there are much cheaper alternatives to Mobil 1 5w-50.

Could not agree with you more if you are referencing the ford gt thread I posted.

My citation for factory fill on that car was the first post on that page.

The majority of the other posts are laughable.
