427Z06, You must be loseing it!! It is a 1996 Honda with 105,000 miles on the clock! I would not call that a "New Honda" so I stand by my origanal responce that some people have found relief with a good 5W40 but not all!
Mobil 1 5w30 VTEC consumption - switch?

This all just sounds like typical Honda stuff. Car runs great but uses some oil. I have never run Mobil 1 in my Honda but from everything I read here and on Honda boards these motors seem to go through Mobil 1 quicker.
I have had very good luck with Havoline Dino, Max Life Dino, and now I am about to switch to MAX LIFE SYN. I have heard great things about it.
I run 5w30 in the winter and 10/30 in the summer. I suggest you try one of those oils in a 10/30 and see what happens.

5w40 are very good oils.....but it would kill gas mileage in any Honda. I tried Mobil 1 Truck and SUV and mileage dropped about 4 MPG in my wife's Civic. The car felt like if the parking brake was on.

Little 4 cylinder engine consume oil, especially on the highway. They're geared to be up in the powerband, which happens to be high in a 4 banga. Look at it this way; if you top off constantly (like I do my oil consuming 4 cylinders), your recharging the additive pack of the oil. Heck, I've though about extending drains a hair further just for that fact!
Before I started to read this board I had a 78 Mazada GLS (323) with 1273cc 5 speed. It got 10W40 oil changes when ever. At 110K miles I tried 5W30 ARCO Graphic and went from about 1 QT in 4000 miles to 2.5 in the same miles. I did a dry compression test and it was 130 @ #1, 75 @ #2, 75 @ #3 and 80 @ #4. I poured 1 cup of Reslone down each sparkplug hole and the rest in the pan and let it sit for a day. I ran it at top speed (140 KPH) on the Autobahn from Heidelburg to Stuttgart and back then dumped the oil. I then did a dry test agian and it was about 145 PSI across the board. Gummy rings. Do a compression test. We dident have Auto-RX back then, I used whatever was at the PX automart. DaveJ
burning oil is perfectly normal for honda. i have a 01 prelude and originally join this site for that reason. i wouldnt go out of my way to get redline, i tried them all, it will not stop. u can get redline if you so desire however. but i use amsoil. and Mobil 1 is known for burning oil faster than others.
