You can see Castrol's varnish stuck to that STP filter. Devil's brew.
Ecores scare me to death but what I can see of that one looks quite good. Not sure I'm seeing any devil's brew marks though, is there a "666" stain I missed somewhere?
I thought Mobil 1 was the devil's brew.
The Mobil 1 filter looks even better of course.

Yeah. I have no bias. Been collecting/watching/retaining data for 5 years. This/the filter(s) is/are proof volatility and the lies about volatility, sludge, and anything else from Castrol continues.

I had a really nice running 2006 Cobalt that I bought brand new... the thin brown roofing tar that is Castrol slowly messed up the fuel economy.
But, I got the GTX cheap. And I believed the anti-sludge ad campain they always ran.
Big mistake, garbage oil.
Castrol created the fake syn market also by using GRIII and calling it Full Synthetic then winning a false advertisment lawsuit over it with Mobil.
Also, you never hear Castrol (BP) ever complain about being the last podium of the "cleanliness" rankings that Pennzoil runs.

Interesting. What exactly do you two think is the cause of this? The PQIA testing as well as Amsoil's testing indicate Castrol synthetics are some good stuff, not really consistent with what has been posted thus far regarding add packs and base stocks.

Caramel maybe...I don't recall seeing an oil that color before. Not golden, not "turning brown to black", but solid caramel.

Thanks. I didn't initially think a lot of it because 1) it's the first top tier synthetic I've run in years so I didn't really know what to expect, and 2) the vehicle is far newer than I'm used to dealing with (a 2012 KIA with only 24k now, we've been driving mostly older vehicles for many years).
Just reviewed Amsoil's test again I'll sleep fine tonight. Already have clearance Ultra on deck for the next OCI in the same vehicle, so it will be interesting to see how that plays out and compares.

My vehicles have never had an issue with ecore filters. I run them often.

This is the first time I have run a full synthetic in my truck (didn't know what to expect), so I kinda thought that might be why. That or I thought maybe that was just how full synthetic looked being used. I have always ran conventional, other then when my brother worked for Firestone and I got a good discount. They always put Kendall syn-blend in. My truck just turned 86k so maybe it's cleaning something up?

Got that Castrol Edge (gold bottle) 5w30 in my Saturn right now.
At 130 hours it is starting to darken too.
(I use an vibration hour meter to track my oil changes, no olm on my car, 60 hours dino or 200 synthetic)
Great oil. Car runs quiet.
