I have a Toyota Kluger/Highlander with 3.3 V6 3MZ-FE and a Hyundai Getz with 1.3 sohc 4. Both are running Mobil 1 10W-30 with 15k and 6k miles respectively and 3k miles OCI in the past. I can buy the Castrol at half the price of Mobil and would be grateful for your comments as to whether a change to Castrol would be ok for my engines, I wish to keep the cars till they fall apart. My driving consists of no short journeys or traffic just freeway or country drives and I do not drive fast. The oil grades of both oils are ok for use in Australia where I live, and as of now I am considering going to 5k miles OCI.
Many thanks
Roger

Absolutely it will be ok. In fact unless you use extended intervals you are wasting your money with synthetics especially if most is highway use. Use dino and you will be better off than synthetic.

Look at the record amount of profit that ExxonMobil just reported and I think you'll find your answer

Maybe now everyone will start cpmplaining that mobil1 is overpriced. Mobil1 has shot up in price to almost $6 in my area. Mobil1 ep is over $6. Platinum, syntec, and synpower are under $5 still. Can you say PRICE GOUGING?

Mobil 1 is true, full synthetic oil containing Group IV and V basestocks. Castrol Syntec here in the US, other then GC, is not a true synthetic and while wear numbers are good, it's extended drain capabilities are no match for Mobil 1. That is why Mobil 1 costs more, simply bc it is using a better basestock.

It would be great if people would stop saying they know basestock content of every Syntec formulation and that alone can be used to put Syntec below M1. Mobil 1 containing esters in Supersyn formulations? Sure did in Tri-Syn formulations but in Supersyn?
This guy is in Australia. He doesn't give a rat's butt what Castrol products sold in the US are made of. Here is the oil in question and a fine oil indeed:

This oil is a long drain oil and should be used much longer than 5000 miles unless wasting it is ok.

buster...since it's a true syn it's ok to raise the price to almost $6 a quart? Makes sense to me.
RogerKluger...sorry your post got so out of shape. BUY THE CASTROL IT'S PROBABLY A BETTER BANG FOR THE BUCK!

Mobil 1' basestocks are not any better than in Castrol Edge. At half the price Castrol is a great bargain.

This whole bashing Exxon for making a lot of money is silly. The value of their assets that they sell (oil) has gone up dramatically. Thus, they make more money.

The market price for a barrel of oil is about $65. Their cost to produce that oil is about the same as it was a couple years ago when the market price for oil was $40. So, they make a bunch more money.

Mobil1 10w-30 PAO synthetic and Castrol Group 3 synthetic.Mobil 10w-30 ACEA A5/B5 and Castrol 5w-30 ACEA A3/B3/B4.I still go with mobil1 10w-30.

He wants 5K OCI's. Castrol edge will be fine. Who in the heck knows if mobil will protect better than the new edge from castrol? Certainly not us.

Buster, don't bring up extended drains and group 3 being inferior, plenty of evidence on this site where one could conclude otherwise.
For the most part though, people buy this ****n expensive oil,(like mobil 1) say it is superior at extended drains, and turn around and drain it in 3-6k, it's rediculous. I'll put the "used oil" in my car and use it another 6k..

RogerKlugerAus05, if you are going to use mobil 1, or any other synthetic, you can extend your oci's to atleast 8k in my opinion.
