This car is mostly a grocery getter with the occasional long trip.
My experience with M1 0W-40 and GC wasn't as good as other's have seen so I re-read the owner's manual where it said to use 10W-30 for extreme service. So I went with 10W-30 this OCI with good results.
Something I noticed is the higher level of moly in the 10W-30.
The columns are M1 10W-30, GC 0W-30, GC 0W-30, M1 0W-40.

Yes. Twice.
I always used the 0W oils because this car was used for lots of very short trips with lots of starts so I wanted good cold pumpability.

Very interesting...just did a UOA on M1 0W40 in my 2002 T5, same exact motor...used similarly (Daily Driver...one long trip). I was happy with the results. I am surprised that GC didn't perform well for you.

I have settled on the M1 because I can get it reasonably priced when on sale...

Are you planning on sticking with the factory OCI?

There's only 1 run of GC on there - the 12/07/08 run.

All others are M1 - the moly/boron/calcium levels give them away. The 01/31/10 run is M1 0W-40 - you can tell by ther visc.

Pretty obvious when you look at it. My record keeping has a problem.

Right. I always run the oem severe service spec weight oil using the oem severe service spec intervals. It's all severe service in Texas heat.

In Ga? With a syn oil? For some reason there is a lack of understanding and false assumptions for some reason by many on this website.
