I currently have 2 cars that require vw 502 spec. One Audi one VW. Both are early 2,000's I would like to use the same oil for both. Currently running Mobil 1 0w40 but both have valve train noise and some consumption around 2000 miles after a change. What would you guys recommend as alternatives? I'll list the ones in aware of and prices below

1. Pennzoil euro 5w40 (autozone is the only place close to me that stocks it and is a little over $9 a quart and they only have it in quarts.
2. Castrol 0w40 or 0w30 (Walmart has castrol 5 qt just for ~$25 and autozone also has quarts of GC but not sure of price)
3. Amsoil euro full saps 5w40 (order online for about $5.70 a quart with the preferred customer discount)
4. Liqui moly synthoil premium 5w40 ( order online or through local Napa for ~$38 for 5 quarts.
5. Liqui moly leichtlauf high tech 5w40 ( local Napa for 42.99 per 5 quarts or online)
6. Liqui moly synthoil energy 0w40 ( local Napa for 46.99 per 5 quarts or online)
7. Motul 8100 xcess 5w40 (order online)
8. Royal purple 5w40 with synerlec or 0w40 without synerlec ( order through local car accessory shop for about $7 a quart.
9. Rotella t6 5w40 ($20 at Walmart for gallon jug)

I would like to shy away from Mobil and try something else to see if noise and consumption change at all. If I missed something that should be an option please feel free to recommend it. Just let me know what you guys think. Thanks!

Not sure who you think I am but I assure you I'm not posing as someone in not. I've been looking on here for some time and decided to create a account and ask a question.

Another Castrol 0w-40 vote, I get it for $26.68 from Amazon delivered in two days (with prime membership). Great oil for the price.

Cheaper than driving to Walmart for me (and a lot less painful to my senses).

I only see two options there either Castrol or T6 since I don't see any reason to spend more than $5 per quart if you can get them for that cheap.

I would like to add to the discussion that you are likely to see similar consumption with Castrol 0w40 as Mobil 1 0W40 but you never know.

4 times now

But who's counting.

Op

Find an oil that meets the spec. Buy the cheapest version on it.
Done.
For price Mobil 1 0w-40 and Castrol 0w-40 are tough to beat for the price. Rotella t-6 is an option as well.
