MMO thinning oil

I want to run a oci with MMO. I've heard it thins the oil, by thinning the oil, does it actually lower the viscosity? I run 5w20 and was thinking of bumping it up to 5w30 or 10w30 for the MMO run, switching back to 5w20 after the cleaning.

Does this scenario seem like a good idea, any other thoughts?

MMO is some pretty thin stuff. It's around 2-3 cSt if I remember correctly.

I wouldn't use the stuff at all, but if you're going to I'd subtitute no more than 20% of the sump volume as MMO.

I was going with a 4 to 1 ratio. Do you think it makes sense to go with a 10w30 with MMO to kind of offset each other and hopefully end up with a 5w20ish blend?

Its a straight weight somewhere between 3 and 5. I use the pint bottle as top off towards the end of an OCI as maintenance. I think its better used that way instead of a blend for an entire run.

For the last 2 winters, instead of draining out the 20w 50 , I just added a pint of MMO to the oil. It would keep the oil thin enough for starts down to zero. I put fresh 20 w 50 in come April. The car are mostly used around town.

Yep, works well as a winter thinner.

Just remember that MMO hurts the lubricity of the oil. It may do some cleaning but it certainly does not help the oil. There are better cleaners like AutoRx or Kreen. I posted the test in a prior post.

The last top off is usually +-1500 miles before an oil change. Gives me room to put in the pint bottle. Doing it this way gives me a nice clean 5k run with the oil, and a cleanup at the end. During that cleanup phase the oil fouls fast, turns dark and I'm not running on dirty oil very long.

Was contemplating Kreen but i live in Hawaii. Doubt I can find it here and shipping would be a pain, bet it'd have to go hazmat.

If you're really concerned about thinning the oil you have two choices. One would be to go up a grade. Two would be to do your cleaning during the winter months, and reap the added benefits of easier cold starts and better oil flow during extreme cold. Two only applies for people living in cold climates. I'd go up a grade if I were you.

Understand. As suggested you can do it for a couple of oil changes if you buy the quart bottle.
