MMO MPG increase

Having worked on cruddy Taurus's my entire life, I wouldn't worry too much about the Vulcan engine in your car aside from the head gaskets. I would worry more about the transmission. The AXOD-E/AX4S tranny is about as bad as they come. The only ones I saw run a long time were ones that physically dropped the pan every 30K, changed the filter, and then refilled with their favorite synthetic ATF. You can either do that, or change the transmission every 60K to 80K.

I've got words for that transmission, but they can't be posted on this board.

MMO is not used in fuel primarily as a MPG increaser.
It is a top end lube, and can help a bit with ring and valve sealing, as well.
It will clean somewhat, and keep things clean, but once again, this is not the primary function.
Lucas UCL, 2 stroke oil, and MMo are mostly for the top end lube benefits [and fuel pump].

If you get any MPG increases, great! Don't count on a lot.

Whenever I run MMO through the gas tank, I notice a ~1 km/L improvement in fuel economy and the engine becomes more responsive under WOT. Don't know if it's my imagination about responsiveness, but I keep track of fuel economy on every tank of gas - whenever a fill up is marked with an "M" on my fuel expenditure sheet, there's a 1 km/L increase.

That is good to know.....I was wondering if it did that for anyone.
I might try a couple of cleanings and then not run it, then try it again to see if I notice a difference.

I am with mechtech2 on this 1, I am running a Maintenance Dose every other tank in both of my cars.

I am noticing a slight improvement in gas mileage, and the engine feels smoother and a tad more powerful.

I attribute this to better ring and valve sealing. and the top end lube cannot hurt.

What exactly is lubed at the top end.

I have been using MMO now for a month in my Marauder, I use a 4 ounce dose every other tank of gas. My m.p.g. have gone from 23.5 too 24.35

I attribute the better gas mileage too MMO keeping everything running properly, as well as being lubed and cleaned.

I always try and use it in every tank full, this way the desired ratio is always the same. Skipping a tank full dilutes the dosage, and negates the full benefits. I am presently trying TCW3 instead of MMO to see if there is any detectable differences.

Two cycle doesn't contain much detergency. MMO will clean auto parts after a good soak and some scrubbing. I doubt any two cycle oil will do that.

Some good news: I gassed up again yesterday at the same station and same pump as I did 10 days ago, when I got 22.8 mpg with MMO in the fuel. To test, I left the MMO out of the tankful I bought then.

Yesterday's 15-gal. fillup netted me 22.01 -- but I have had to use the A/C a little bit, so that might explain part of it. Still, I continue to be astonished at the efficiency of this big chariot.

I've put seven oz. of MMO in the 18-gal. tank again, and will try to keep the variables to a minimum.

Update: Refilled the tank, same station and pump, after 12 days on MMO; got 20.89. I've done some highway, but I couldn't get a long highway run in. MMO might have made some difference to mpg for me, and it might not.

Pretty soon it'll be too hot here to fuss with anything, and I'll be running the A/C a lot, so I dunno if I'll have any more results worth reporting.

I just filled up my Marauder and I am getting 23.5 m.p.g.

A maintenance dose of MMO must be keeping things working properly in the fuel system.

+1 I also believe if used as directed it increases compression slightly by getting a better ring seal. This could be why some people say the engine idles smoother, and the car seems to have more power. It could also explain the slight increase in MPGS.

I also think TCW3 can produce similar results but won't keep things as clean as MMO will. JMO

Thanks, now I realize that TCW3 is a spec and not a brand of 2 cycle oil.

TCW3 stands for Two Cycle Watercooled version 3

try this stuff if you can find it.

Benefits:
Pennzoil Marine® XLF is uniquely formulated with extra ashless dispersants to help:

* Keep your engine running clean.
* Guard against harmful engine deposits.
* Protect against piston-scuffing.
* Keep performance robbing carbon deposits from forming in the combustion chamber, piston tops and under crowns and piston-combustion rings.
* Keep exhaust ports clean.

Pennzoil Marine® XLF is formulated to a higher lubricity limit than the NMMA AF-27 lubricity test to provide EXCELLENT protection against piston-scuffing and reduced wear.

Another dispatch from the MPG Wars,

I gassed up yesterday (same station and pump) after 12 days and 330+ miles, a run without MMO. I got 23.01!

Yes, it's been warmer (gah!), though I've run the A/C only once or twice, and I got in one more 12-mile highway run during that time. Otherwise, not much difference. Looking back on this thread, it seems I'm not seeing a steady improvement in mpg with the recommended dose of MMO in the fuel. Sometimes the result is good, sometimes it's not.
