MMO in oil in Summer

My truck runs great when I add half a quart of MMO during the last 500 to 1000 miles of my OCI. I am due for another oil change soon so I added 18 ounces of MMO to my oil a few days ago and there is the same noticeable improvement in power and acceleration, and the engine is running smooth and quiet, as always when I add the MMO.

On this next upcoming OCI I would like to add half a quart of MMO to a full sump of 4 quarts of 10W30, Carquest brand dino and Carquest Red filter. I am in Florida and it is hot here now. And it will be hot until late in October. Anyone have any problems with MMO in the heat? Like thinning the oil a little too much or any other problems? I don't think it will hurt anything to overfill by half a quart of MMO, there are no bubbles on the dipstick when I check it right after driving with the engine still hot, and my oil pressure is the same or a little better than it always is without MMO in the oil.

I appreciate any info you can offer. I tried searching here and Google but didn't find anything. I don't want to cause any engine problems but I really like the way my truck runs when I have that pint of MMO in the crankcase. Thanks.

I can't speak for Florida heat, no problems in NY though. I'm running a qt in a 6 qt sump right now, will probably change it out in July or August.

I had 1/2 quarts MMO with 8 quarts PP 5W20 in '00 E430 spec'd M1 0W40 to Vegas in July 4 weekend. The temperature was 125-128F when I passed Death Valley, the engine was quiet and smooth with coolant temp at around 86-88C. When the car had M1 0W40 in previous years, the coolant temp was 92-96C when I passed Death Valley with ambiance temp in the 120's. Thinner oil plus MMO makes my engine run cooler.

Thanks for the info. Are you guys adding your MMO to a full oil sump or substituting MMO for a quart or partial quart of oil? I can't see half a quart of MMO causing any probelms in my engine.

Thanks for your help here.

I am substituting MMO for a quart of oil.

My car holds 6 quarts of oil, so I add 5 quarts of motor oil and 1 quart of MMO.

I'm curious about why it runs better after you add it. Have you just tried running a lower visc oil to see if you get the same butt dyno sensation??

I mean, if that's the case, why wait?

Replace 1 qt of MMO with 1 qt of oil. In a small sump like yours a pint is plenty.

I tried running a lower visc oil without MMO, meaning a 5w30 and I did not get the same butt dyno sensation that I got from running 10w30 and replacing a quart of oil with a quart of MMO.

Engines like ours dont respond dramatically to to such a small difference, just the internal rotating mass alone is like having two 2.5L or three 1.8L engines in terms of inertia.I notice only the smallest, most minute difference going from a 5w20 to a 15w40 in power or economy. This yaer though ,Im stickin' with T6 year 'round because I found I had a bad starter to block ground, which made me think that the thicker oil was causing a slow starting effect.

My truck is a 2001 Dodge Dakota with a 3.9 V6 and a 5-speed manual transmission. I bought it used with 42,000 miles and have almost 130,000 miles on it now. I have never run anything other than 10W30. Dodge says you can use 5W30 but they recommend 10W30. I use Napa or Carquest brand conventional, or Valvoline if I can get it on a really good sale. I have a case of Carquest 10W30 to use up and then maybe might try 5W30, but I don't really expect much improvements on the butt-dyno if I did.

What I think I will do is just add half a quart of MMO in with the full 4 quart oil fill on this upcoming oil change, then add another half quart somehwere around 1500 to 1000 miles before my next oil change. I don't think it will hurt anything to do it that way. I have tried using 3.5 qts. oil and half a qt MMO and did not like the way the engine sounded. I have added it near the end of the OCI like this the last couple times I put it in the crank case, but if possible I want to use it all the time in the oil because I really like the way my truck runs with the MMO in the oil. I had to experiment with the dose for the fuel this same way. My truck has always run very well but with using MMO in both the gas and oil it runs even better. Not only does the truck run quieter and smoother, it has a very noticeable improvement in power and the throttle response is a lot better. MMO in the oil also cured a cold start hesitation/stumble problem. The truck would run a little rough and had kind of a lag for the first 1/8 mile or so after I first start it up in the morning.

My truck just plain runs a whole lot better and has a lot more get up and go with MMO in the oil. I carry it with me when I know I will be filling up and always add it to the gas too. MMO is great stuff and like I have said before, my only regret is I wish I had discovered it sooner.

Thanks for the help here.

Jimmy your plan is solid, some oils get a little thicker toward the end of the OCI anyway. You'll be fine either way.

I have noticed the same thing with using MMO, so I guess it is not my mind playing tricks on me.

Im like scared to use MMO with a 5w30 oil lol. Especially since summer is about to begin.

Depends on the dosage I think. There's a guy w/ a great UOA using 20% MMO w/ Rotella 5w40 and it was still a 40 weight oil after 5300 miles.

If you have say a 4qt sump and you use 16oz. MMO, I wouldn't worry about it. That would only be 12.5% MMO.

What size sump do you have and how much MMO do you want to run?

I did it last summer and now I am doing it again this summer.

Five Quarts of 5w30 and 1 Quart of MMO.

I have a 4.5qt sump and I wanted to sub. a quart of oil for MMO on the next change.
