Swepco 502 is new to me, never heard of it.

Well, to be honest, I have my doubts about whether any of the mentioned products (LC20 and ARX) have any effect on anything when used in GC. I have started a thread on this years ago, but when I used GC to rinse the measuring cup I used for ARX maint dose, the ARX came off the glass and formed a ball suspended in the middle of the GC. It did not do this with XD3 15W40 HDEO, Rotella-T 15W40 HDEO or Castrol GTX 10W40 - it blended instead.

The number of posts I've seen from Frank about ARX "cleaning other esters into your filter" make me wonder if otherwise-excellent GC keeps any kind of cleaning product from doing it's own work and anyone using a maint dose of ARX in GC could be wasting their money.

As I mentioned, I'm running HDEO this summer with only 4oz of ARX and the lifter sound is changing (ie. improving) again.

It's too late in the summer season, but I probably should have run a full round of ARX this summer in HDEO to attack that lifter some more. I need to get back to GC for the winter.

I don't feel that I've gone at my ticking lifter great guns, other than one true round of ARX, and that was on the early instructions (only one bottle in 7L of oil, and lower mileage). Russell has gone way farther than I...

True. In my case I don't think there's anything wrong with my VANOS unit. I had my VC off in the last month and retrofitted an updated VANOS seal into the piston to restore low end umph. Everything passed inspection, although I have some open questions with some M52 gurus about the cam-to-cam chain tensioner spring strength (ie. unassisted by oil pressure).

May try Risolene. However, after 3 doses of Auto-Rx I just think it has done all it can do. Some other product may "attack" crud in a different way.

Keep in mind this engine has non adjustable hydralic lifters. Just a smal amount of crud in small passagescan cause a tick.

Today after 60 miles on MMO i could hear the tick come and go as the car idled for a couple of minutes. Previously the tick would be more constant. Even so, I suspect any change/improvement is just wishful thinking as I doubt if MMO has had any effect yet.

I have the same kind of thing on my M52.

One single ticky lifter than comes and goes, sometimes only at certain temperatures.

It's much quieter than it was after a round of ARX (shorter instructions at the time) than it was originally, but it never went away completely. Maintenance doses of LC20 and ARX in GC haven't affected it at all.

I'm running XD3 15W40 HDEO conventional this summer for a couple of reasons with 4oz of ARX in it, and it seems to be doing the coming and going while I'm standing there thing again.

A guy who admittedly sells Swepco indicated that Swepco 502 gets rid of ticky lifters on BMWs. He gave me a freebie bottle stating that I'd get hooked on it. That unopened bottle is still in the stash.

Swepco 502 PDS

Swepco 502 and some other Swepco products are sold by Pelican parts a noted BMW parts house. That gives some merit to tha titi is good for BMWs. I may get a bottle.

For what it's worth, I can't say I've heard my ticky lifter in the last two weeks. For the first time in a while, first gear a 2k through parking lots with sound bouncing off of everywhere didn't have that light lifter tick in it.... Smoooooth.

Reminder, this is 4oz ARX in XD3 15W40 HDEO. I wasn't trying to do any kind of "cleaning round". If I hadn't put ARX in, and had enough of it left, I'd consider a "shock dose" of the last of my LC20 before my fall OCI since I noticed some staining under the VC this summer.
