MMO and engine noise

After reading all the stuff on here about MMO in fuel quieting down engines...

I put about 16oz into my tank, which is about 2/3 full. The tank takes about 14-15 gallons, so the dosing was pretty heavy.

I have been running FP in the car for a LONG time now, and have not noticed lowered engine noise, but today, the car got a LOT quieter. The 318i has very little sound deadening, and the fuel pump is right under the rear seat. FP definitely made a noticable difference with respect to the fuel pump noise, but never quieted the injectors. MMO definitely quieted the injectors, so theyre quieter than when new. I didnt ddope the fuel with FP the last couple tanks, and the fuel pump is louder again.

The overall engine is quieter now, I am pretty amazed. Its not peppier, maybe even a little less peppy, but the noise reduction is quite excellent. Fuel economy improvements have not been statistically significant, but neither were they with FP.

An update... the car feels like it has less pep now. Maybe its some intense cleaning, maybe its too heavy a dosing, I cant say... but it does not feel as light and peppy as it usually does.

Does the engine oil oxidize because of the heavy dose of MMO. It might be oil that has thicken from the MMO affect. I don't know.

even the 'heavy dose', say 16 oz in ~9-10 gallons is still very minimal. I doubt it has much of an effect on oxidation, etc. I can see causing abnormal wear rates due to dilution of oil, etc., but I doubt that oxidation would be an issue.

But I dont know... Why would you think the oil would oxidize more because of the MMO?

I've use MMO in high dose in Kholer engines, 2 oz in 1/2 gallon. I'd check the oil and it's seems to thicken some what. I've used Lucas UCL at the same rate and it did feel like it diluted the oil to that affect. Also tried FP at the same rate and the oil didn't feel like it too much an affect.

MMO is an excellent cleaner. A stronger cleaner than the others, I don't know. It might be carbon deposits that was cleaned off quickly that affected the oil and it increased oxidation in the oil. Just my observations.

I got fuel today, to check MPG. I had used the better portion of the tank (shell v-power). This time I filled with chevron supreme.

V-power normally gets me pretty good MPG in the BMW. I was suprised to find that I had only gotten 23.6 mpg. I think this is the worst ever, and my average of town and highway driving is high 27s, average of only highway trips is high 28to low 29.

Obviously there is something going on... Id have to guess that high dosing of MMO impedes combustion efficiency.

I use MMO Religiouisly in all my Vehicles.
The only loss of pep I have noticed is when using
Shell V-Power Gas. I use Marathon Premium at a
station that I know is not pumping Gasohol mixed
with about 8 oz of MMO on a 13 to 14 gallon fill
and have no problems. I did notice though that
Shell V-power does lower mileage by approx 1/2

I started using MMO in the gas tank of all my vehicles after talking to an aviation mechanic. He told me about an aircraft engine he overhauled several years ago and what he found inside. The engine was required to be overhauled at 3000 flight hours. When he disassembled the engine he noticed how clean the entire engine was but especially the pistons and rings, which were clean like a new engine. No varnish on the sides of the pistons which is always visible on all engines he had overhauled. The pistons were all shinny like new and so were the piston rings. The mechanic had never seen something like this and so wanted to find out what might have caused this. He called the owner and asked what type of oil he had been using. The owner told him he had been using the standard aviation Shell oil that all planes use. The mechanic then told the owner about the clean engine parts and was puzzled how this could have happened. He had overhauled many aircraft engines using this same Shell oil but had never seen such clean internal parts before. The mechanic kept quizzing the owner about other possibilities. Finally the owner said the only other thing he was doing was always adding MMO to the fuel for the entire life of the engine! He said he thought this would make the engine run smoother but had no idea what it was dong to the internal parts of the engine. The mechanic became a MMO user right at that time.

When you think about all engines having some blow-by past the rings with the high pressure of combustion, you can see how a cleaner fuel would keep the pistons and rings clean. I have seen engines which have been converted to propane stay very clean and the oil does not even change color over the life of the oil change. This is due to the super clean burn of propane and few by products from combustion getting into the oil after the blow-by past the rings on all engines. I think the type of fuel and the additives to the fuel is at the heart of all gunk in the lower end of an engine. I am sticking with MMO in the fuel for all of my vehicles and small engines.
