I've been picking off waxes on clearance the last few days. It should be an interesting system wax.

Has anybody done this? Like mixing 3M with mothers?

Usually I use one, but with so many deals...

Not worth the hassle. Most OTC waxes last 6-8 weeks max. You'd need to mix them with collinite to make a difference and then you'd weaken the collinite.

No, I mean mixing them in a "system" wax- ie, like a 3M cleaner wax, mothers "glaze", and so on...

I tend to wax my cars often (at least 3 times a year), so saving a few bucks would be nice, as long as it takes care of my paint.

Michigan can be hard on cars...

No, I'm not mixing the actual waxes themselves...

I think I got myself in trouble on this one...

o0o0o0o0o0o0o I see.

I thought you wanted to be a chemist!!!!

Yea, sure you can do one coat of that, one coat of this, ect. . .

A polish, then a cleaner wax, then a glaze would work great!

I think I might be a dangerous chemist...

That much of a difference, you think?

Gotcha, use a polish like Megs SwirlX and then a cleaner wax and then top with a pure wax such as Megs 26 or a spray wax such as Mothers FX.

Duragloss? Though I don't have a Carquest around here....

Most detailers I know use various brands when working on a car. There are very few car care suppliers that offer a product line that covers all the bases. We're all looking for the most effective combo of products, so don't worry about using one brand, then applying another on top of it. As long as you use the products as directed, there should be no compatibility problems.

About the only conflict I can think of is using a polymer sealant on top of an oily glaze, but all that will happen is the sealant will not bond properly and its durability will be compromised. It's not like your paint is going to explode or anything.

Experimentation is half the fun of detailing. Give it a try and let us know what works for you and what doesn't.

I will..I just picked up 3M cleaner wax for 1.95, Eagle one car wash for .67, and a Mothers glaze for 2.50..

Good luck this week, I guess.
