i have acquired a 3100 lumina that i put a motor in that has 190,000 miles on it. i put a timing chain in it and new gasket and front and rear main seals. the engine was sludged up some and the oil blackened after about 30 miles. i was using 4 qts of castrol 20-50 conventional and 1 qt of 10-30 and an AC 47 filter. i changed it and cut the filter apart and found quite a bit of dirt in it allready. so i changed it and put a concoction of oils in it to make up about 5 qts. about 2 qts of rotella 15-40, about a half quart of Quaker 10-40, about a half quart of 10-30 valvloilne max life synthetic blend, and some other 15-40 Pennzoil gold to make up the rest. i have run mixes before and never had no problems. i dont see harm in it. what do you guys think about using all that for a flush oil for 500 or so miles? is Pennzoil platinum the best high detergent oil out there for removing sludge in an old engine quickly. it is not severly sludged but just dirty. thanks for the advice ahead of time.

To clean out your engine an HDEO CI-4/SL diesel/gas rated oil will clean out dirt/sludge, you also have option of the newer CJ-4/SM HDEO which will have lower ZDDP to protect cat if that is issue to you. There is high detergent contents in HDEOs. You seem to like mixing oils so why not drop a quart or two HDEO in for detergent purpose?

Mixing oil is OK, but if you really want to clean up a mess subtract 1 qt of oil, and replace it with a qt of MMO. It will clean much better than any combination of oils you mix together.

mix away, just don't make a regular habit of it. Settle on one oil eventually and stick with it imho.
