I need to add about 1/2 quart to my current fill, Valvoline conventional. I've got almost 3/4 quart left over of M1 that I used on my other vehicle. Can I mix the two oils, or should I go buy another quart of Valvoline conventional. If the answer is no, what's the reasoning behind not mixing oils? Thanks.

Add away it won't matter.
You can add M1 to bring the level to full mark, but you don't need to add any oil until the level down to low mark. The low and full mark is usually representing 1 quart.
