I have a 2001 Toyota 4Runner with 100k mi on it. I have only had it for a few months now, and since I have no service records on it, I figured it would be good to change the Transmission fluid.
The manual calls for Dex II or Dex III. I took it into a dealer for a drain and fill (not a flush or full fluid exchange).
They put Toyota T-IV in, so now there is 5qts of that in there, along with whatever was in the transmission last, which I assume is Dex III. I talked to the service manager, and he said that T-IV is basically Dex III with additional friction modifiers, and it won't hurt anything to be mixed with Dex III or to run it on my transmission, which is designed to use Dex III.
I just wanted to check with the real experts here, to see if mixing the 2 could cause problems, and/or if running T-IV in a Transmission Designed for Dex III could cause any problems.
